to save greek life, get rid of hazing

by:

I understand that some chapters here have long traditions in their pledgeships but the issue is that most people nowadays don't keep things secret and technology is partially to blame for this. And the former pledges who get voted out of their chapters tend to be whistleblowers and rat fraternities out to their schools. With more and more chapters getting kicked off due to hazing incidents, the best way to keep chapters from getting in serious trouble or kicked off is to eliminate hazing all together. In this climate where schools are very anti-greek life and technology advancing and keeping record of fraternity/sorority secrets in pledgeship, hazing is just way too risky nowadays. Getting rid of it is the best thing to do at this point in order to save greek life.

Actually the answer is to get rid of pledgeship and replace it with a safer and educational program. Hazing comes from pledging.

Exactly. Sig Ep and SAE do that nationally and most of the chapters that follow their educational programs (can't really say all) don't get in as much trouble as they used too.

Pledging doesn't have to mean "hazing", asking pledges to set up parties, clean, DD on weekends, its a pain but i would hardly call that hazing. Also know for a fact many SAE and SigEp chapters don't follow that

It all depends on how you (fraternity/sorority) word your request. Asking them (pledges) to clean, DD on weekends, set up parties will seem to be good, however, the "Asking Them" which can and usually turns into "Ordering Them" is hazing in the eyes of the University, IHQ's and even by some parents.
