why are most all girls public?

I'm thinking of joining a sorority but I don't want to have a public profolile. It seems as it all the girls have maybe followers over thousand and are private.

None of my social media profiles are public.. many girls in my sorority have their social medias on private too. I️ think it’s just to seem more popular
