now what?

by: GreekAlum

I'm an "older" FSU alum and was Rush Chair for one of the perennial top 3 sororities - since Thrasher has shut everything down for Greeks at Homecoming ( since Greeks dominate HoCo he's basically screwed the event) - I think it would be an awesome show of strength if BOTH undergrad as well as Greek alumni wore our letters to the game, either with those buttons the ladies wear at their waists or as a tee shirt instead of FSU gear. Even dust off our pins (gotta find mine LOL) to wear on a collar. Just something to identify ourselves in a collective show of strength.
I understand why Thrasher did what he did, but IMO it was too drastic. Greeks are nearly a quarter of the student body but Greeks are also the heart of campus life.
Love FSU but also love your GLO and what Greek organizations stand for. Greek life WILL be back - too many powerful alums will demand it.

Maybe instead demand chapters change and reform what they’re currently doing so we don’t have to go through this again. If you’re as powerful of an alumni as you say you are, you’re one of the ones that can help fix this mess.

I'm certainly not a powerful alumni - never made that claim. However I am from the age group where most of the Golden Chiefs come from, and they are probably 95% Greek alums.
Agree that reforms are needed.

What do you expect them to do? Stop drinking by anyone who is under 21? Not going to happen anywhere on campus. Stop hazing? Possible, yes.

Not at all. I drank before I was 21 so I can't make judgements. Not the purpose of my original post, either.
I'm just hoping Greeks are welcome back at FSU sooner rather than later. Hope you feel the same.

Someone is burying their child due to yet another frat binge drinking tragedy and you’re focused on getting to wear your letters to a game in a show of “solidarity”? Are you kidding me?!?

So it would be a "Greek Life Uber Alles" moment?

I'm not sure how that would play, nationally.

Can’t speak for other frats or sororities but mine personally is not allowing us to wear our letters for the time being until this mess has cooled down

The fact that you’re an alum (aka a grown ass adult) and don’t see how insensitive this idea is AFTER A KID DIED shows you probably aren’t that mature or aware

I can’t believe people actually agree with doing this. Imagine how that dudes parents would feel seeing that from his former school
