Actually what's sadder is that someone died. These selfish comments and threads worried about losing Greek life make me wonder what our student body is really about well selfishly they all live their lives.

It is absolutely sad that someone died. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t be upset about having something that has shaped us into who we are today be taken away. We have the right to be upset and you’re just being completely unreasonable in your thinking. What happens to Dance Marathon? It’s mostly Greek organizations so what now? The miracle kids don’t get to come and have a good time celebrating their lives with people who have been fundraising for months and months. We don’t get to raise the 1.7 MILLION dollars that we usually do for children’s miracle network? We don’t get to support each other’s philanthropies and the charities that the money raised goes to? Think about how selfish YOU’RE being by not thinking about all the good that Greek life has done.

Choices do matter. Learn a lesson. Get it together, then fundraise.

In addition to that Greek life donates millions to charities and causes through these philanthropies. Think about how many lives are saved from DM, Relay, etc.

But unfortunately no one ever focuses on the good things that Greek life does

This is what happens when running out of control. Choices do affect others. Learn a lesson.

Y'all really acting like you have a crap about talks philantropies when half the time y'all yell at sisters for not looking a certain way in the name of your philanthropy. You can still do dance marathon as a non Greek student and if you were truly dedicated to the cause you'd still fundraise on your own with a group of your sisters or brothers. Let's not try to act like you're suddenly upset about your philanthropy when you're more upset that your parties and tailgates are cancelled.

We actually do care about our philanthropy events. Mine is half the reason I joined my chapter because i love serving my community. Now because of this an entire part of my life has been taken away.

My chapter is my home since I don't have a real one. It is the reason I'm still at FSU and haven't transferred. It hurts that people like you don't realize that and don't seem to understand that Greek life on this campus isn't just about partying.

Its really disheartening when people just feed into the stereotypical view of Greeklife. My chapter has completely changed my experience at FSU for the better. I love my philanthropy and attending other philanthropies. Its true you can still participate in DM/Relay but the truth is the event will likely not raise as much money even if we all did it apart from our organizations because each team does a lot of fundraising and it takes a lot of people to go to share-it nights etc to raise that sum. Ill do it either way because I love it but I think thats the point people are trying to make with that.

This should be a time where we address other issues as well.

You can still do your philanthropies, just not with your Greek affiliation. If you actually cared about the philanthropies, that is.

You are right! Me and my 5 closest friends will create and organize a philanthropy but careful, only a couple of us can attend because Thrasher clearly outlines no "unified meetings or events" which would include our philantropy event.
Before you start saying that individuals can raise money etc on their own, you need to realize that its the power of the group and competition that raises the money collectively. Most sororities raised 20k-70k per year for DM. Since they cannot collectively fundraise, i doubt DM will even reach 500k which is heartbreaking when they expect so much from us. That includes relay and every other charity

One good thing that will come out of this is I won't have a dozen greek life people a day harassing me online and in the streets to give them Dance Marathon money.
