can a sorority opt out?

by:

Can a sorority opt out of formal recruitment and just recruit year round? It seems me that a lower tier sorority is at a big disadvantage with all the rankings pushing them down. If the ones everybody says are on the bottom didn't have to compete directly with the ones on the top they might be able to get more members and upgrade their members on a big campus this size. I'm wondering if the free market wouldn't be more helpful to the lower sororities.

You must be a greek rank staffer to give your site so much importance. It certainly does not influence how well a house recruits. Formal recruitment has equitable rules and procedures to ensure fairness and best chance of success for all houses and PNM's on a campus. The system works. No NPC nationals would support their chapter 'opting out' here. It would be a death sentence. If a chapter is struggling it has nothing to do with 'rank' or 'tier'. These are made up terms and are completely subjective opinions of random...who the hell knows what people. The only criteria for success is that chapters make quota and have strong sisterhoods year after year. SDT at Alabama does not participate in formal and they are not competitive with the other houses.
