why are the pikes

I'm just askin. Looking at the fall 16 scholarship reports I see every sorority but one has between 250-290 members. Sorority recruitment is planned, structured and orchestrated to create a fair system.
Looking at fraternities I see recruitment chaos, no rules and no structure and five fraternities with less than 100 members while Pike ATO Phi Delt KA (my fave) and Theta Chi all have over 160 each. Four of those have over 180 each and one has over 200.
Why is this allowed? Why is this fair?
If fraternity recruitment were done the same as sororities, all fraternities would have a fair opportunity and no one would be too low or too high.

To answer your question, fraternity rush isn't suppose to be "fair". All the fraternities must take the initiative to be involved,to do more, to be successful, to be great. These qualities make them appeal to rushees, which gives them good recruitment numbers. If a fraternity is losing potential members, there's a reason for it. I apologize if this may sound harsh but this idea doesn't just apply to greeklife, but everything in life.

This is not an issue. Men are competitive and aggressive. Women are competitive but nice. If a man doesn't like you he'll tell you. If a woman doesn't like you she'll tell someone else. Fraternity rush is a free for all like the old demolition derbys. Sorority rush is formal and in the end every house gets the same numbers and no sorority gets any better or worse.
Men like it the way it is and women like it the way it is.

And that same response goes towards the sororities as well. Without making their required high quotas, many of them would not be able to afford their houses.
