can you deny your bid after bid day?

by:

So hear me out. I can't afford sorority dues. I can afford recruitment and I just want to experience it ONCE before I graduate. I wish I could have a sisterhood but I can't so I just want this one experience. I'm going to rush this upcoming fall. If by some miracle I get a bid, is it possible to just run to the house with the rest of the girls just to cry, hug, and take pictures? Can I deny my bid after that? If not, is it possible to take the bid and accept it but drop out soon after to avoid the charges? I'm too embarrassed to ask this at recruitment itself so if anyone has an answer or any info, please share it.

i go to another school, but for rush at my school, you can drop before initiation and you won't have to pay dues/new member fees. there were a couple girls who were in my house that did the whole running to the house and hugging everyone thing, yet ended up dropping the next week. they just had to return the bid day shirt, backpacks, etc. that they gave us on bid day

I agree with the person above. If you accept the bid and drop then that bid could've gone to another girl that was possibly in love with the house and will be disappointed on bid day. Sorority recruitment is full of emotional girls crying every day because of cuts and bids so consider how it affects other girls and the chapter before doing that

This is the MOST selfish thing. You would be taking a membership spot from someone and leaving them devastated. DON"T to through recruitment because this kind of attitude/plan is classic "mean girl." Plus you would be hurting an entire chapter of women who were thrilled to give you a bid in the first place.

Some sororities have much cheaper dues than others. Go through recruitment and you will be given this information. If you calculate how much you will not be spending on food because of the house meal plan, the dues might be more affordable for you.

Thanks for letting me know guys. The LAST a thing I would want to do is hurt someone. I thought that if I denied my bid, they would simply call the next girl in line. That's how it worked at other universities I read about so I assumed that's how it worked here too. So no, I won't do that. And no, I'm not a selfish person. I didn't think that me rushing would screw other people over. Thanks for educating me on the subject. I just want to rush to meet the houses and learn more about Greek life before I graduate. If I do get a bid, I'll deny it on the spot. I would hate to hurt someone else who has their heart set on a house. I don't think I'm going to get a bid because I'm a senior. As a matter of fact, I'm expecting to get cut at some point during the week. I was just hoping that I could have had the chance to hang out with the sisters I would have had before I leave the rush process. Thanks for explaining. I just wish you guys hadn't have made so many assumptions about me right off the bat because of my question.

I'm calling this OP an Alexandra Robbins wannabe, stuck on herself and her own made-up little sorority journey.
