sororities told who to hang out with

One of my friends in a "middle" sorority told me they're not allowed to go to fiji, beta, delta chi, phi psi etc and to always make an appearance at pike, delt, phi delt, etc. I also have another friend who is not allowed to run for a lower tier's sweetheart because it'll make the sorority's image look bad. Anyone else thinks this is completely messed up??? We're all adults, shouldn't we be allowed to hang out with whoever we want?

This is not new. Sorority leaders probably do not tell individual women not to 'hang out with' specific fraternities. However, it's a fact that some sororities nudge their members toward certain prestige fraternities. Look no further than the traditional homecoming pairings.

But they do choose specific fraternities to call out and I know this for a fact. One house even said "we're going top tier this year & if you don't want that then get out" to their new members at their first meeting

Sounds like one sorority has their stuff together and wants to rise in the social rankings.

The only way to get ahead at FSU is to associate yourself with better that what you have now. The more you trade up the better you become.
