crazy...

by:

I'm thinking, and doing some math... If each chapter took approx. 93 new members, glove or take ...and there are 17 sororities... That equals 1581... I heard the number of girls rushing was around 2300, so that means over 700 girls dropped or were released from recruitment.. Is that right??? If so, that's crazy... We should all feel thankful for any bid that we were extended...top or bottom tier.

This can't be right.

by: its true

this is completely correct. because of the failures by panhellenic in how they handled giving out schedules minutes before round 2 started, girls felt abandoned by rho gams when they were dropped from houses they loved, so they gave up and dropped.

I think it's more the heavy cuts on Friday that caused everyone to drop. Everyone gets their hopes up when they get ZTA/ KD/ DDD back and think they've got it made. Then their drop from heir favorite houses and can't deal with the rejection so they drop from the whole thing.

Not even that, ALL the sororities were doing heavy cuts. It was shocking.

It's not just Top tier cutting on Friday. It's everyone. Girls in my group were crying over chino and gamma phi not ZTA and KD. Why are so many girls cut? Half the sorority isn't even recruiting! Why not have more girls at parties and bigger pledge classes?

It seems like there were just a lot of girls this year and every tier had their pick, sort of... they cut according to their numbers and probably ended up with a lot of high-quality PNMs on their lists, but the girls who would have been the really high-quality PNMs (like were one-tier-up level) probably dropped because they saw it as being forced into a tier lower than they deserved.

Just a theory and the whole thing, with people being too good for certain houses, leaves a bad taste in my mouth so I wish it weren't true. But I bet there are a lot of girls that it was true for.

Rush this year was a complete mess. Some sororities did not even meet quota because they were cutting so many girls every round. It was sad. I heard that even the Rho Gams were frustrated this year, and that says something.

so will there be a lot of "snap bids" because chapters did not reach quota? Can you get one if you dropped out??

This website and the idiotic obsession with tiers certainly doesn't help, either. Girls who get invited back to top tiers for two days and suddenly find themselves with only lower and lower mid houses flip out and drop because their expectations are shattered. Instead of looking at the personalities of the houses, they're just looking at popularity. It's so damaging to the entire system.

And the infighting here is terrible, too. People don't see that what damages the lower houses damages the greek system as a whole. If AGD's reputation gets bad enough that they have to leave campus, there's not going to be a vacuum. Sigdelt or Kappa is going to be the new "lowest of the low". And all the top houses trying to reign supreme? Who wants to be at a school where there is only one really top house?

Personally I think all greeks should just come here and vote and post like crazy people and throw everything so off that it's acknowledged to be nonsense.

Would AGD actually leave though? They they're building a whole new house??

by: .

Sorry, that's kind of an extreme example. I actually think AGD is doing great, they got some really cute girls and if they keep doing what they're doing they'll keep improving, especially with a new house. What I mean is, with numbers like this -- where fully 1/3 of girls who register don't end up with bids -- there is no reason for any house on campus to be seen as a last, undesirable option for PNMs. If every chapter supported and built each other up instead of judging, emphasizing differences, etc., then PNMs would feel supported and would be more confident in joining "lower" houses.

My main point is that a greek system where there is panhel love is way stronger than one where the chapters tear each other down.

Side topic and I am not an AGD. I get so sick of reading that they are the so called lowest of the low. Some of the girls there are as beautiful as top tier girls and every one i have net has been so sweet. They dont seem to have the nastiness/infighting that aopi and some other catty srars have. That is all!

It makes me crazy because if you think back to high school (which is where this mentality comes from, people who can't get over high school)... did you care if your friends were the most glamorous girls in the school? Would you have traded your normal, pretty, cute, wonderful friends for the girls who were the most gorgeous, just based off looks? That is what PNMs are doing when they obsess over being in the top tier/faciest chapters.

Tiers are literally based off looks, which means girls are joining a lifelong sisterhood based on what they think guys want, which is a CRAZY DUMB way to decide what is important to you. And before people talk about the higher ranked chapters having good GPAs, the difference between highest and lowest is minuscule, and if that were what really mattered then the tiers would all be in GPA order which they're not.

I agree with you. But for some reason, all of the sororities were also harsher with cuts this year. I'm not even talking about "top" tier houses, I'm talking everyone. Yes there were girls who flat out dropped after not getting the "top sororities", but there were also so many girls that were cut from almost all the houses after the 2nd round that it was ridiculous. No wonder so many houses came out under quota.

To Lyltiwn - You don't know what you're talking about. Quota isn't set until after Pref Round, so early cuts don't affect that number. Also, do you know that sororities are told how many PNMs they have to cut? They're not doing it to be mean, they have to do it. Strong recruiting chapters (based on their return rate from the year before) have to cut more women early - to get those women to focus o the weaker recruiting chapters.

Also you might have a house with tons of girls with easy majors like education, communications, psych, etc vs a house with girls with harder majors/lower gpa's because classes arent all easy A's.

which sororities are still accepting members?

From what I know, AGD is planning to have COB. I haven't heard about snap bids from other sororities. It seems like most sororities are going to most likely try to reach quota during Spring recruitment.

Why the need for all the cuts? Just because? I mean I think it's kind of obvious that the top tier's almost always do super heavy cuts, like 50% PNMs after round one. But all houses, really?

By: so
by: Lul

Yeah I know. So many of the "low tier" chapters already have issues meeting quota, yet they decided the best way to solve this problem was to cut more girls lol what logic.

I'm guessing any guy who wants to join a fraternity gets a bid from someone. Why not suspend all the Penhellenic rules and let the sororities recruit as many as they want? Why limit the pledge class and the chapter size f there are girls who want to join?

By: be like fraternities
by: past

That's how it was before RFM. But it resulted in really lopsided chapter totals. RFM isn't perfect and the we-treat-you-like-preschoolers approach to the structure of panhel recruitment could definitely use an overhaul but it has strengthened the houses that really struggled with numbers during rush.
