Yes, it makes things way more competitive, which means everyone's pledge classes will be better this year and getting a bid is privelage not a right

Just spoke with the Office of Greek Life and they said they expect as many as 2800 by the time Rush starts.

does each sorority have a cap on how many girls they accept/ will that go up since there's almost 3k girls rushing?

Yes there is a cap, it may go up but that won't be determined until pref. Pledge classes are usually 90-100 girls:
