Is it really as savage as this website makes it? How competitive is rush? Will I get a big from a house I want or dropped or in a bottom tier

Recruitment is more stressful than you think. The whole week you're gonna go through with PNMs who think they know where they're gonna end up. There's gonna be tent talk and its gonna be hard to ignore. I can't tell you how many times I heard PNMs talking about rumors they read on this website during tent time. My best advice is really try to make the most out of the conversations at each house, whether you like the house or not. You can be dropped from recruitment if you are rude or ignore the girl rushing you. Try to be respectful and kind to each active member you talk to.
Over 2000 girls will be going through recruitment and many will drop throughout the week (my rho gam group went from 24 to 16 by bid day). 90% of the girls that go though pref will get a bid.
You seem to have a house in mind when you said "will I get a big from a house I want". Don't. Having a house in your head already will make it 10x harder for you during rush if you get dropped by them. EVERY new member gets a big. As soon as bid day rolls around, go the extra mile to meet actives and find girls who you connect with. Your new chapter will try to pair you with older members that could be potential bigs. But the choice is up to you to pick someone. Go out, go to waltz's and meet your sisters! That's how I met my big and I couldn't be happier.

Just know recruitment is so random. It is surprising that any of us got bids anywhere after you understand the process. In my house, which is middle tier, girls preffed at top tier houses and lower tier houses which shows that things are competitive. It is an emotional roller coaster. At the end of the week, you only need one place call home so keep an open mind. Yes. It's very competitive. But what this site leaves out is how amazing all the chapters are at that this school.
