rec letters for a sorority

I'm rushing this year and I'm totally lost when it comes to rec letters. Some people told me they're essential and others say they're worthless ? Am i wasting my time trying to get some ...

While rec letters do not guarantee you an invitation back or a bid, they do guarantee that your name gets "in front" of each sorority before recruitment starts. Sororities will know a bit more about you and know that an alumna is endorsing you for membership. (There are a few sororities that require all their new members have a recommendation to become a new member by their national/international policies.) Why would you not want to have your options potentially maximized? I say try to get recs for as many sororities as you can.
