why do homecoming pairings even matter?

It's the only big thing that actually confirms where fraternities and sororities are with respect to tiers. None of the chapters really go too far out of their equivalent tier in the other council. In other words, top tier sororities with top tier fraternities and so on down the hierarchy

They only seem to really matter for the younger members of fraternities and sororities because it's their first real chance to socialize in Greek life. Older members don't care because they already have their friend groups.
