old row?
by: SECWhat are the old row fraternities here? I go to another school but i'm just curious.
#1by: What?
At Alabama 'old row' used to mean the fraternities along University Blvd but that has changed. Obviously every school does not have an 'old row'location.
If you mean which fraternities are the traditional top houses at FSU, you'd have to go back before Sigma Chi and Lambda Chi got kicked off because they qualify.
I think the original 'Old Row" at Alabama was SAE, Sigma Nu, DKE, maybe Pike and Fiji and/or Theta Chi but I'm not sure. We don't have DKE or Sigma Nu here and SAE is bottom half. The real 'old row' location at FSU was Wildwood, but that's all dorms now.

Well as said above there isn't an "Old Row" at FSU but the oldest fraternity at FSU is Delt. They are very So Flo though and nothing like old row at bama. The southern fraternities that are KA, Pi Kapp, somewhat Kappa Sig and Alpha Delt. Usually SAE is southern but not really the case at FSU
#5by: what I'm saying
What I'm saying is that Delt cheated and installed the night before everyone agreed to do it at the same time. So yes, Delt can say they were the first fraternity installed in the modern era, but the way they make it sound like it's an accomplishment when it's just cheating.
About KA, maybe you're depending on a technicality. KA was founded in 1902 at Florida State COLLEGE. Florida State UNIVERSITY did not exist until 1947. If you're a Delt, you're dishonoring your fraternity by trying to make them sound like something they're not. Delt is excellent on their own. They don't need made-up 'honors'.

Old Row at Bama were the pre civil war frats installed at Alabama before the civil war. DKE was first frat at Alabama, then PHI GAM (they don't call themselves FIJI) then SAE (founded at Bama), Phi DElt, Sigma Nu and KA. The New Row are frats installed at Alabama after the civil war.
#8by: Old row at alabama
Heres what ive heard. Most of the fraternities at Alabama had big houses on university avenue after WWII. There really was only one row. Then the university wanted to expand so they made some fraternities build on new lots they gave them on another street (the “new row”). Those included ATO, Pike, theta Chi, Delt and Signa Chi. They had all been as good, especially Theta Chi, ATO and Pike, as the ones that stayed on University.

You really don't know much about how Houses are "Old Row".
Old Row signified you were the first on campus, the first on Greek row and the first with power on campus. New row fraternities came long after and the influence isn't as grand.
The Alabama Old Row is:
SAE
Phi Delt
FIJI
DKE
KA
Sigma Nu
