regret
by: RegretDoes being in a bottom tier organization matter to future employers?

#3by: No
#4by: Agree with "No", but...
I agree with 'No" above, but the truth is that top tier fraternities with a tradition of graduating top tier members will give you the best networking resource. A bottom tier chapter attracts bottom tier guys who go on to mediocre careers. If you want to network with assistant district sales managers, then go bottom tier.
#6by: It depends
Does it have a big impact on your future? That depends on what contacts you develop in college. Sometime, yes. Some fraternities are really serious about this. Theta Chi at FSU is one. Pike is one. So is ATO. I'm sure there are others.
I'm not a Theta Chi but they have four alumni on the FSU Board of Trustees. Four! And they're all active alumni helping their chapter. Pike alumni are incredible. ATO is strong in governmental lobbying. President Thrasher is a Sig Ep from FSU and Sig Ep has a lot of powerful alumni.
So the answer is yes, it can be a huge factor in smoothing your pathway.
#7by: to be blunt
The fallacy of Wow's statement about ATO is the assumption that all men in all fraternities are the same, regardless of which tier their fraternity occupies. Top tier fraternities attract a certain type of guy. That's why they are top tier. Truth is, a guy with that 3.6 from a bottom tier fraternity is going to get beat out by a guy with a 3.6 fro a top tier, because of the socialization and contacts he's been exposed to.
#8by: it's pretty simple
Look this is the way it is whether you like it or not. If you were the recruiter behind the desk, would you hire a 3.6 GPA from the University of Michigan or a 3.6 from Kent State? Scholars compete with the general population to get admitted to Michigan. Kent is a garbage school. It's the same with fraternities. PNMs compete to get pledged into the top fraternities. Bottom tier fraternities are like Kent.
#9by: it's pretty simple
Yes, of course you're right and I didn't mean to imply that it is valid on a national basis. I mean that on a campus, the top tier fraternities draw different membership than the bottom. You're right it doesn't matter what letters are over the door. Fiji at FSU vs. Alabama is a good example.

Lol! Please tell your future employers how high your Greek organization is in the tier ranking system....
I mean it's dumb and childish to compare each other like high schoolers...
but more seriously, no the subjective and dramatic concept of tiers is not really something a lot of employers look at or care about. If anything it comes across like you spend your time/you're a person who will worry about unimportant or petty things and it would read as being a little immature.
What matters is what you do/did with your time and grades and honestly how you present yourself.
