by: NoleWhat drawbacks are there in being in a lower tier fraternity or sorority? Like do you get judged when people see you wearing your letters, or do a lot of chapters not want to socialize with you? Asking this as a legit question out of curiosity.

I do not care about the top and lower tiers. I think all women should go to where they feel at home. That is the most important aspect here. I have friends that are in top houses at FSU, and can not stand their sisters. I am in a middle tier house and love it. I wear my letters proudly. I do not care what the DG"s or KD's think of me. Really that is so petty. I love my sisters from the middle tier. I am not saying anything bad about the top tiers, middle tier house perfect for me.

Truth is, you can have just as much fun in the top house as the bottom. Your friendships are just as strong and you laugh just as hard.
The difference is that the top fraternities mix with the top sororities, and the bottom tier groups mix with each other as well. If what you want is contacts with people who are going to run the world, those types are drawn to the top houses. If you don't care and just want to enjoy the ride, then any of the fraternities and sororities will bring you happiness.

"People who are going to run the world" is inaccurate since a lot of lower & bottom tier sororities & fraternities have people in really hard majors that are also very heavily involved on campus outside of Panhellenic & IFC. Common majors in top tier sororities & fraternities are retail merchandise, PR, marketing, and things like that (not saying they're easy, but there are way harder majors that are prevalent in lower tiers), meanwhile lower sororities have a lot of biology, chemistry, finance, and math majors (which lead to "lower GPAs") but it's a lot easier getting A's in business classes than in the arts & sciences

In summary, these people in "lower" tiers are really freaking smart & will be very successful in the future

No offense, but I dont think the facts back you up. I don't know that IQ varies greatly between the top and lower tier houses, at least among the fraternities. There are lots of pre-med students top to bottom. I wrote 'answer' post. I was in a top tier fraternity at an SEC school two years ago. I transferred to FSU where my fraternity is low to no prestige, but I've had a lot of fun and enjoy being with them as much as I did at the other school. The big difference between top tier and bottom tier is that the CEOs, the entrepreneurs, the legislators and governors, the pro athletes come out of those top houses. If that's what is important to you then go there. If it's not, you'll have just as good a time on the floor.

lol i dont really see many CEOS, entrepreneurs and legislators in phi sig, or delt.

Did you ever think the pattern of the top tier spitting out CEOs is because their rich dads give them money and connections? Doesn't mean they worked for it. Doesn't mean someone without those means who joins a top frat will have the same result.

no way would I take middle tier bid over top tier. I would never join, AOPI, PI Phi , and the other lower tier houses at FSU. GO for the top tier houses.... I am in a top tier house, Yuck, never would join the middle tier house. You get no respect period.
