recruitment system is a mess
by: PNMI know this is not just me because based off of multiple people I have talked to throughout recruitment, this seems to be happening to a lot of people, but why do we keep getting stuck with chapters we do not like and dropped from ones that we felt like went really well. On day 2, I received my schedule and the two chapters I did not want to see again were on there and a chapter I gave a letter to due to my absence for having a class decided not to even try to get to know me, which was annoying since I thought I would have fit in well there based off of previous conversations with current members. I understand that each chapter can only accept so many people back each day, but this whole process is about finding a "home" and where we fit in, but how can I even do that without getting a chance at each chapter? Day 2 went alright since I at least had 2 chapters left that I liked, but was forced to visit all the rest that I just wasn't feeling. By day 3, one of the chapters I liked I fell in love with and connected with multiple girls within it. Conversations flowed easily and I honestly felt that "spark" and "connection" that every rho gamma and person on the board talks about. But today I found out that they dropped me and am stuck with one I don't even like and another one that I liked but was nothing like the other chapter I saw.

The chapter that I liked we were actually laughing and having good conversations instead of the basic "tell me about yourself" "why did you want to recruit" "do you have any questions about this chapter?" and the conversations were not forced at all. I can name at least 10 PNM's have said they felt the exact same things I did in all different chapters and were not asked back either. This is not just a "popular" chapter thing, screw the ranking system on this website, because even chapters that are on the so-called bottom have rejected girls that have said those were their favorites and asked others back (like myself) who just were not feeling it with them and have not actively participated in too many of the conversations with them in order to save energy for the chapters I actually liked and because I was genuinely not that interested in our conversations. A lot of the people I have talked that have been dropped by a favorite of theirs have said that even the current members they talked to said things like "oh we look for girls with those qualities" or "you would fit in great" and then get dropped the next day. This process is a mess, we were originally told 2 girls last year did not get bids, but what they should have mentioned is how many girls denied a bid/dropped the program due to only getting invited back by their least favorites

It's hard to know if they felt the same "spark" and connection as you did. All chapters are going to be nice to you and get to know you, but if they don't invite you it's because they don't see you as being a good fit which hurts and is upsetting but do you really want to be apart of a chapter that didn't invite you back? You should be enthusiastic that there are chapters that really like you and would love you to be apart of their sisterhood. Like I've commented on the previous posts I never got my first choice and I went through two times but I'm happy I stayed cause I honestly have the best sisters.

It's honestly sad to hear you were purposely not engaging in conversations and not giving each chapter a chance. The girls all work hard and to not have an open mind is a waste. "In order to save energy for the chapters I liked" I get that you're upset and the system is confusing but I hope if you don't get the chapter of your choice you actually give them a chance, if not then you're not ready to be in Greek life at DePaul.
