psa for pnms considering dropping out of rush

by: Alum

I'm a recruiter for a top bank (Goldman/JPMorgan/Lazard) and when looking at Columbia students we typically give you a 2.0 grade increase because of the time involved in Greek life. Plus it shows you're social and can network well, which is 99% of banking. So that candidate basically had a 3.7 GPA going into interviews because of the fraternity boost, not to mention the network he gained from joining a Greek organization. Usually 99% of our accepted candidates were in a Greek house, the other 1% had 4.1 GPAs and had multiple internships.

1. Lazard is not on the same level as GS or JPM

2. Don't you mean a .20 GPA boost? Or are you saying someone with a 3.7 is thought of as having a 5.7?

3. Why the hell would a recruiter claim multiple allegiances and be writing on greek rank?

4. There may be a correlation between banking and greek life, but it's not causation. The kinds of people who join greek life are already interested in banking.

Try again.
