diversity in greek life?
by: DiversityDoes anyone realize the lack of diversity in dg’s new pledge class......
#1by: yup
it's a pretty widespread problem, I think theta and axo were slightly less diverse (theta's class was 90% white girls). SDT was ever so slightly more diverse. DG's was bad, but not the worst. The "lower" tier sororities tend to take more diverse classes, but still not excellent.

Hmm while it is true that sororities are insitiualtionally predominantly white groups, DG made an active effort to be more inclusive and aware of this issue LAST year. However, this year I do think that this was not taken into consideration and their pledge class is not an accurate representation of the diversity that Columbus university has as a whole. It is honestly very very disappointing...

it’s not great but ppl also forget that part of the reason sororities aren’t representative is because there are also multicultural Greek organizations on campus that attract a lot of people who feel that their culture/background/race is central to their identity and something they want addressed when joining a Greek organization.

racism is definitely prevalent in the “top” sororities on campus because they value eurocentric beauty standards and similar aesthetics in the vain of being instagram models so it’s more difficult for women of color to achieve these looks or standards
the chapters that value personality and sisterhood above looks end up getting a more diverse class in regards to race, body types, interests and passions, etc

Let's never forget how the absolute lowest point of cultural awareness in Greek life at Columbia caused by none other than Theta. Girls thinking it was funny to dress up as stereotypes from other cultures is exactly what has gotten sororities kicked off campus at places like Penn State and UPenn.
