how do bids work
by: what??how do bids even work? I know girls who listed two sororities and got into their first, girls who listed two sororities and only got into their second, girls who listed one sorority and got in, and girls who listed one sorority and didn’t get a bid...... why? I’m confused.

sororities can’t take everyone who wants a bid from them. They don’t cut people after preference round but they do list and rank them and then the computer compares their list to how the girl’s ranked them. There can be any number of outcomes. If you were high enough on your top choice’s list then you got a bid if you didn’t, you did not. After the sororities fill their pledge class quota, anyone ranked bellow that final spot won’t make it. If you make it to pref night with two sororities and you list both, you’ll get a bid. If you only list one you may not. Trust me, sororities spend a lot of time deciding how to rank people and sometimes it doesnt always feel fair

it’s all a computerized system that actually decides the bids but it looks at the PNMs top choice and then sees where they are on the list... say the number each chapter can take is 40, then if you’re within the top 40 of the chapters list and you listed them as number one, you’ll get in for sure... BUT it also depends on how many people ranked “above you” by the chapter also decided to rank the sorority as number one. if you only ranked one sorority, the system technically considers you after everyone has their bids, which is why some people don’t get the bid even if they’re pretty high on the chapters list because everyone who ranks two sororities gets in to one, even if they’re lower on their second choice chapters list then you were, and you only listed that chapter. so yes, it’s very confusing, even to seniors who have recruited for 3 years and have been scoring and ranking PNMs for 3 years. if you really want to know how it works the office of fraternity and sorority life could probably answer your questions better than Greek rank.

The worst part of the algo tho is when pnms know about it and then put down two sororities with the itention of not joining the other to help themselves get into their top choice. Happened to like 5/6 Chapters where girls refused bids (that I know of) and even if it’s just 1 spot, there was definitely another girl who would’ve loved to be in the Chapter instead/another girl the Chapter wishes they could have had

it only passes over girls if there’s someone who won’t get their second choice bid if they give the girl who only preffed one sorority a bid, but you wouldn’t get a bid anyways bc they need to give that girl a spot so you’d then get a bid from your second choice... but if you’re gonna turn down that bid anyways you just shouldn’t put them down when u do ur mraba

that’s a problem with the algo not the attitude of the girls. If the algo intentionally passes over girls who single pref then no one is going to do it!
