rush 2015

Any tips for freshman rushing next fall? Is it really as stressful as everyone makes it out to be? What's one thing you wish you would've known before rushing?

lots of recs and in house connections. it is hard and you will not have a good rush experience if you don't know in house girls.

How many girls should I know in house?

Not true, I had a great rush experience and did not know any one in any of the houses. Be yourself, because you do not want to be stuck in house with people you THOUGHT you would like. These girls may or may not be your bridesmaids one day, so make sure they're the kind of people you would want to surround yourself with.

NOT your bridesmaids. That saying is stupid. Sure I've made some friends and will invite them to my wedding. That's it.

if you didn't find your bridesmaids, maybe your sorority should look at their sisterhood

What I wish I'd known is the hell of that week. Go through hell and learn to be superficial. What a plan.

I found my Bridesmaids in my sorority! Going greek at UA was the best decision I made during college. Rush week is challenging, but the most important thing you can do is to stay true to yourself and to go with your heart! It's okay to go where your friends don't go!

1) There is no formula like "Do this = Get bid" Its a careful balance of GPA, great conversation, involvement in something other than school, looks, and reputation. You do not have to have all the boxes checked in order to get a bid, but if you majorly suck in one of these areas, rush is going to suck.
2) Rush sucks for everyone. Tbh, even the girls in the houses hate it. Just be prepared as you possibly can and roll with the punches. There will be punches but thats no reason not to enter the fight.
3) DO IT! Its so incredibly worth it. Every single second of college life has been better because of greek life and my sisters. You will understand the "whys" and "hows" when you are rushing other girls, it will all make sense and you will be so glad you were brave enough to try.
4) Sorority women are brave! We put ourselves out there during rush hoping that someone will like us and it doesnt stop there. Sorority women are the ones brave enough to go for the big leadership positions and internships, brave enough to study abroad, brave enough to add philanthropy work to our busy schedules and still pull off an A in the class, brave enough to ask THE GUY to formal. If youre not brave enough to rush, you probably wont like being in a sorority because it is four years of pushing yourself to be all you can be.

If you are drop dead gorgeous-nothing matters (unless your gpa is absolutely abysmal)-you will have your pick of sororities. If you are the typical nice looking PNM, you need to have someone on the inside that can convince her sisters to vote for you.

I wish I would've known that after rush week, what people consider as the "top houses" really won't matter. I heard so much about it from other PNM's during recruitment. Once you're in a sorority, you will most likely love it and won't care! After you're in a house, rankings really don't matter to you that much. Also, don't go into rush with a closed mind. I thought I knew which house I wanted without a doubt, then after visiting all the houses I found that I liked others better. I ended up not choosing the one I originally thought I would like the best!

I wish I would have known how nervous in-house girls are too! It's not just you! Also, don't just blurt out your resume. It's a conversation, not an interview! Remember that you're deciding who you like too so ask them questions and everything will go swimmingly.
