rush

by: Wps

I'm transferring to Arkansas from another sec school in the fall. I pledge a sorority, but was never initiated. How hard is it for a sophomore to go through rush? I have good grades and lots of good recs and I know girls in some top houses so I was wondering which houses would take a sophomore?

As someone that went through rush as a sophomore, I'll tell you that it's a lot more difficult rushing as a sophomore. With that being said, it's not impossible and you still have the chance to get into a great chapter. ΑΧΟ, ΦΜ, and ΑΔΠ are known to take sophomores. Even if you do know girls in top houses, it's still pretty rare for them to take sophomores. But hey, you never know until you try!

I'm also thinking about rushing as a sophomore and I was wondering if being a legacy to a good house and knowing girls would help?

Being a legacy and knowing girls is certainly a plus, but they shouldn't be relied on too strongly. From what I have heard, legacies are often invited back for the 2nd or 3rd round but that doesn't guarantee a bid. Haha don't let that scare you, though. Focus more on presenting yourself well during rush and having strong rec letters/resume to back you up.

I rushed as a sophomore and it is definitely a challenge! Kappa, Pi Phi, and Zeta will not take sophomores at all. I was a kappa legacy and got cut after philanthropy round. The rest all depends on how your grades are and how your personality is! It's hard and sad getting cut from houses you like just because of being a sophomore, but you can definitely still end up somewhere great!

Well actually the only house I know that definitely cuts sophomores is Zeta. I know sophomores don't get in regardless. But I know for a fact Pi Phi and Kappa do take sophomores. It's just really is extra competitive which is dumb. But the argument is that sophomores "have one whole year less to contribute." But that being said, if you know people and you rock you should be fine.
