girl rush

by: razorback

I'm going to be a sophomore this fall and I went through rush last August and ended up joining a house.
My expectations coming into Greek Life at the U of A were very different from my actual experience. I can admit I did NOT see myself joining the house I did at the beginning of rush or in the months leading up to Panhellenic recruitment.
However, looking back I am so glad I ended up where I did and joined the sorority I'm in. In my experience going through rush helped me learn about myself tremendously and who I am as a woman and as an individual.
It is my personal opinion that most girls who support and perpetuate the common tiers and stereotypes of the houses aren't invested in much else on campus besides their sorority and the common aspects of Greek Life at the U of A (ie religion, grades, partying, etc.). There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.
I do wish someone had given me a reality check before going through recruitment. Your sorority should not define you as a person by any means; Greek Life is meant to make you a better version of yourself, not better than other people (be they Greek or non-Greek).
To all PNMs out there listen here: be yourself. You have the opportunity to make friendships and experiences that will last a life time, and that is the best thing about Greek Life. So don't choose your letters based on what you've heard or the superficial stereotypes you read on some website. Choose the house where you feel at home.
