Can you tell me about Alpha Phi

by: newtoark

Can anyone tell me about the new house Alpha Phi? Why were they not part of formal recruitment with the other 11 houses? Will they get first shot to girls who COB?

AP is just colonizing so there is no chapter.
It would be impossible to have a regular recruitment because there are no members to do the recruiting.

From what I understand they’re going to open their bids up to PNMs after regular Panhellenic stuff is over

My biological sister colonized a chapter at another university and it was a really unique experience. The first few pledge classes were very close (and still are), they got to know alumnae from all over who came in to help them and they established the traditions that the chapter still does today. Alpha Phi has a great reputation nationally, so I think it's going to be a great option for the right type of PNM

Alpha Phi has done well at both Ole Miss and LSU. I would expect the same here. We need another sorority on campus badly. This will be a great opportunity to be a part of Greek life!!

Alpha Phi will COB since they are starting a new chapter, but after their own mini recruitment. If you (were) dropped from formal rush, you’re not automatically getting a bid from APhi. That’s not how it works. APhi’s new member class will include girls who did not even go through rush, but are high quality potential members. It’s a mix for sure. Definitely quality over quantity. I expect to see great things from this new APhi chapter. Alpha Phi has a great reputation of starting new chapters in the South. You’ll have to wait and see for sure!

Alpha Phi has a reputation in the South for starting chapters with white, pretty girls only, with mid-grades who will look great on Insta and boost their social capital. If that’s what you are looking for, they’ll be a great fit.

Starting a chapter is a really cool opportunity. You’re essentially creating something new with your friends and able to start your own legacy. I hope anyone overwhelmed or let down by formal recruitment gives APhi a chance!

Okay APhi reps, simmer down. You have posted this thread yourselves and answered yourself over and over to keep it on the top of the feed, we get it. Calm the f down.

Actually, no! Its from a mom who has a freshman coming into Arkansas. We have another daughter at Alabama. Arkansas is by far a more difficult rush and we were merely seeking more information to make some hard decisions. I think all the advice so far has been spot on. Greek rank has actually been helpful, even though we were told to take it with a grain of salt.

Arkansas has a higher bid rate than Alabama (AKA a higher % of PNMs who rush get bids). Panhellenic is very proud of this. Unsure in what way you think it’s more difficult— hard decisions AKA daughter is considering alpha phi over less desired houses?

Panhellenic should be very proud of it’s quantity of girls who get rush bids. I am interested in which houses you consider less desirable houses?

I think it’s cool they will have use of a house for their first few years while they get established - at least it looks like they are going to be using Pike’s house while they’re off campus. It’s super helpful to have a place when you’re a new chapter. It will make them stronger, faster

They seem like they’re going to do great here at Arkansas! I think they posted they already have plans to open a house by 2027 but in the mean time they will use Pike’s old house
