by:

Any idea how big pledge classes will be? So many girls going through Fall ‘24 rush.

Usually about 180

2138 PNMS x 94% overall average bid rate at UofA / 11 sorority chapters = 182 per chapter.

Plus Alpha Phi will have separate recruitment after school starts and could take another 180-300 (or more, who knows really?!?)

You don't have to be nervous. More pnm's doesn't mean more are released, it means all the numbers go up across the board. The number of invitations back for each chapter are percentage-based and adjusted continuously per round, not preassigned or predetermined. The goal is placement for as many pnm's as possible, not to get rid of them to meet a certain class size. The more pnm's that stay in the process means the more bids there will be.

Pnm's drop out voluntarily far more than are released from recruitment.

Tell your girl not to make an emotional decision she will regret when she is released from a house she loves. And it is when, not if, because she will experience being cut. It hurts but it's not personal, it is a numbers game. Each house is assigned a number they can invite back for the next round and they can't go over. Not making that cut off line does not mean the actives she talks to didn't like her or are rejecting her personally.

But some girls don’t get a bid at all, right? Even if it’s not common it happens?

That is correct. A small number of girls may be completely dropped from all houses during recruitment. However, if you make it to pref with a house, you will get a bid. Some girls may only have one house at pref, so opening the card on bid day is not a surprise for them. The small number of girls who are completely dropped from all houses in recruitment may be able to get a snap bid or do COB.

What would make a pnm get dropped entirely? I have a 3.70 gpa and no scandals and am nice and not witchy I could still get totally cut. That scares me

You really need to not focus on this. When you meet the actives in a house, they are not trying to find reasons to cut you! They are looking for the good in your personality and trying to find their future sisters. If you present yourself well and have decent conversations with actives you will be fine. It's about making personal connections with the actives you talk to and wanting to see each other again.

You will get dropped entirely if you seem rude, bored, uninterested, unfocused, negative, have no self-awareness, or can't hold up your end of a conversation.

Be nice every where that week. The houses talk to each other. If you act like you’re too good for a house while you’re there the other houses will hear about it.

almost everyone who drops is because they didn't get back houses they wanted. I do know of two PNM's who got dropped from every house, but they eventually did COB and are in houses now.

That’s what scares me though. If I was dropped by everyone why would I want to cob? I mean if they did t want me the first time then…..

Because...please pay attention to this...if that happens it's not necessarily because you weren't wanted. I know it seems like that from the pnm perspective, but that's not how the recruitment process works. Sororities are NOT looking for who they don't want or picking out the girls to drop, they are far more focused on finding the positive and looking for their future sisters.

There are plenty of girls every year that a chapter would want to have back if they were allowed more, but every house has an absolute firm number they can invite back to the next round. These numbers are given to them by panhellenic and each house's limit is different based on their chapter recruiting history over the past 4 or 5 years. These numbers determine everything. The chapter has discussions and assessments of the pnm's each day and their recruitment team takes it from there. Only the recruitment team sees the chapter results and knows the exact data, which they use to create a ranked list to submit to panhellenic. The cutoff line determines the pnm's that get invited back. If you didn't make the cutoff it doesn't mean the actives didn't like you or found you lacking somehow or that they wouldn't want to be your friend. Actives get emotional when girls they like don't come back, and they don't know if the pnm chose different or there were too many other pnm's that the chapter as a whole put higher.

It's not personal, it's a numbers game. That's why girls who were dropped completely can rebound and get a bid.

I wonder if they will keep pledge class sizes a bit smaller on purpose to drive membership to A Phi. They need that house to be successful quickly in order for them to get a house.

This is not the way that the National Panhellenic works, so please put it out of your mind. Their number one goal is maintaining the current chapters, then bringing in a new chapter. Not to mention UArk Panhellenic in particular is VERY proud of having the highest overall bid rate in the nation. They aren’t going to play with the numbers & jeopardize that!

RFM and Quota are not manipulated when a new chapter comes on. What usually does happen is that house total is set a bit lower so that there aren't as many open spots for chapters to cob, which does help an establishing chapter.
