How toxic is Greek life

How toxic are the sororities/frats to each other? Are they hostile to each other in their faces?

I have seen girls wearing their letters, minding their own business , and walking to class get the chi o hand gesture literally put up in their face and having to hear “I’m a chi o!”

Chi o thinks they are better than everyone else.
Instead of thinking it and being polite, they will rub it in your face at any given chance.
That’s toxic to me.
