Understanding the word "TOP"
by: UofA
Everyone needs to understand the timeline of each sorority's established date at UofA to understand this whole "top" thing, aka hardest to get into. "Top" in reality means, been at UofA longer and as a result has that much more alumni support and has built many more connections. Rush at UofA can be VERY HUMBLING especially for OOS girls, but understand the longer the sorority has been at UofA the more UofA legacies/connections exist to fill their spots. This is why sometimes you'll see some girls that don't fit a sorority's mold, well they are most likely a UofA legacy or STRONGLY connected to that particular sorority and just like that they're in. Then you are left feeling like, what is wrong with me? NOTHING! Nothing at all! You could be amazing but when there are not enough spots there's just not enough spots. Hope this makes sense. Keep an open mind and remember this experience DOES NOT DEFINE YOU!

This is so true. I didn’t realize it until my daughter rushed and I talked to friends who really knew what was going on. The top 4/oldest houses are looking at Fayetteville legacies (they give zero cares if your mom went to a different school) , people who will donate lots of money, connection's etc. So many girls get cut sight unseen and don’t get a chance to even meet the girls in the house . It’s not necessarily even the girls you are talking to at rush . A lot of older members and alumni have their hand in things . It was eye opening to us because my daughter was always popular and things came easy to her, so she was surprised at how hard rush ended up being . She ended up in a house she loved , so this doesn’t come from a place of anger . Just want people to know this goes is what
Goes on. I was always the parent who thought everyone was being petty and sensitive when they talked about how cutthroat rush is . Also , I was there in the 90’s and phi mu just wasn’t a popular sorority and couldn’t get members . I don’t know if that’s why they left , but they were nicknamed phi moo by the fraternities.

What in the world are you doing saying toxic things about a chapter as an adult? Everything was good in your response til you mentioned Phi Mu. Just-…wow.
