Recruitment for PNM's with no connections

by:

If you are a PNM who does not have connections, you should know a few things before recruitment begins:

1. Be yourself. You will be miserable in a house that you don't feel like you can be your authentic self in.

2. There is no in-person first round this year. That means you won't meet anyone to try to build a connection (rush crush) before houses make their first cuts. The first cuts for the "top" houses (chi o, kappa, pi phi) will be DEEP. They will cut about 70% of PNM's the first round. There were over 2200 PNM's last August and they kept around 600 for second round.

2.You will get to rank houses after you watch the chapter videos first round. You will rank the top 8 you like most all as #1 and then the three you like the least, you will mark in order as #2, #3, and #4. You will have a max of 8 houses for round two.
The likelihood you will get back top houses having no connections is close to zero. These houses already know who they want. Be realistic with yourself on how you rank.

3. Arkansas doesn't have bad houses. Don't let this site or other people tell you that one house is better than another. Being in a house with so many diverse women, who did not already all know each other, has been the best blessing. I wish I would have known before I started recruitment.

I talked to a lot of my nm class after bid day and so many of them marked the top three houses last since they knew they didn't have a chance and wouldn't make friends as fast even if they did. They knew these houses would cut them anyway, so getting their schedules back for round two and seeing almost all of their #1 choices made them more confident moving forward.

My roommates and I and a lot of other PNM's without connections in my group and on my floor did not do that. We were devastated to not get those top houses back. (Looking back now, we understand the connections thing, but at the time it was hurtful)
We continued with the process and ended up in houses we love, but could have saved ourselves the emotional roller coaster if we would have marked these houses last.

Correct, except I’d say if you do get a top house back after round one you’ll probably be dropped if you don’t know anyone.

@Woo is right. Even if you get to houses back after round one, you will most likely be dropped later in the week if you don’t have connections. Again, like mentioned above— it doesn’t matter if you have great grades, extra-curriculars, volunteer hours, homecoming queen, etc. I’m the end, connections are more important to those houses.

which really is why putting them last is a good idea

tbh, there were 8 of us from OOS and we knew we did not have a chance at the top four houses so we decided to put at least three of them at the bottom of our lists. We did not get them back the next day. My guess is that they would have cut us anyway, but it made us focus on the other houses who would actually want to get to know us. In the end it worked out for us. We are in three different low to mid houses and could not be happier.

That’s a good idea Avery. I never thought of it from the emotional part.

Plus PNMs need to know that just because you rank low doesn’t mean that sorority is out. You can rank a sorority bottom and have them on your schedule the next day

Do my first round rankings even matter?

By: Pnm
by: .

Unfortunately no, sororities already know who they are going to cut, first round is definitely for them. Sororities I cut first round we’re on my list the next day for philanthropy so no it doesn’t matter

How are pnm's supposed to decide which 8 houses to list first from only watching a video?

Sorry but it really doesn’t matter

UArk Panhellenic is posting on insta daily about the houses. I'd say look through those and look at each house's account. The videos probably won't help. They are going to all be about the same.

It doesn’t matter what you put. It’s really just to make the PNMs feel like they have some control but you don’t

You only have to list your bottom 3 (the 3 you like the least) for most rounds. The only time you rank is when it goes from 5 to 2 houses and then again when you pref.

I agree with this. OOS pnms please be open to all houses, even the ones you might think are "lower". All of our houses are great.

I'm from out of state and did not know anything about the houses. I love my nonconnection house! No one cares about ranks after recruitment anyway.

Are top tier girls mean to the girls in lower houses?

By: PNM

It seems that way from this site

Not really. I know a lot of sweet girls in top houses. There are mean girls in literally every house.
