Sophomore Rushing

by: Ella

I’m a transfer rushing as a sophomore. I have about 1 connection in each top house and a 3.5 gpa. Should I expect a bad rush experience?

Don’t expect a bad rush! But be open to all the houses. A 3.5 is fine -/ not great but totally fine considering all houses were in that range.
One person in each house is prob not going to help unless it’s like the president or rush exec or something.
Steer clear of thinking too = best. Top really just means the girls know each other. If you don’t know other girls that well then mid houses might be more fun for you. Top houses are like high school 2.0.

Truthfully it’s difficult to get a bid to a top house as a sophomore and the main reason is finances. They want a girl that can pay dues all four years. By the end of senior year your pledge class will already have lost girls for various reasons including graduating early so they don’t want to pledge a girl that for sure will not be there second semester senior to pay those dues. If people disagree with this than do not know what they are talking about. Top houses typically have more girls to choose from ( not because they are better but because we are wired to want what appears to be the most difficult to get) therefore taking a sophomore isn’t something they will likely do. Occasionally it happens but it is rare.

I rushed as a transfer sophomore last year with a 4.0 gpa, was a legacy to a top house & I completely agree with what the above person said ! If you don’t know multiple girls in a house that you’re close to, the president, or a rush exec, the chances of getting in what people consider a top house are very slim as a sophomore. However, I am in what people would consider a mid house and I absolutely love it so keep an open mind ! <3

just being honest, you will very likely be dropped from the top three houses first round. They need more than one connection.
Try not to take it personally. It's hard, but focus your attention on the mid and lower houses.

I will tell you from experience that you will have a much better chance in non-top houses. You will also have a better three years of Greek life.
Top houses take almost 100% freshmen, so even if you got in, you won't have much in common with your nm class. Lower houses will have a lot more sophomores so it is easier to bond.

I'm in a newer house and had quite a few sophomores in my new member class.
