I think this is true, but those top houses still have a large percentage of members with connections. They want their friends from hs. That makes it more difficult for oos pnms to get bids and if they do, more difficult to fit in.

OOS girls if you don’t have connections already you’ll probably be happier in a non-connection house. I have two good friends who quit after getting into a connection house because since everyone had connections/knew eachother it was super hard to make friends and they never felt like apart of a group.
I’m OOS with no connections and LOVE my no connections needed sorority!

out of state with no connections and I am so happy in my house. it is filled with mostly out of state girls.

absolutely! It was so much easier to make friends in a house that everyone didn't already know each other.

Here’s a high school analogy. If you move from OOS into a high school where you know no one your senior year and everyone else has been friends since elementary school, it’s gonna be harder to fit in. It can be done, but it’s harder.
Top doesn’t mean friendliest or happiest or best sisterhood. It just means hardest to get into. In fact like the high school example you’ll probably fit in better with other people who haven’t known each other and who have also recently moved.

It can be like high school 2.0 but some people don’t mind that. They want to stick with their friends.

Ive been here for three years and have met a lot of kappas (freshman roommate went kappa)
Ive never met one that did not have a connection.

The connection might be loose with the girls in the chapter, but strong with the alumni. Alumni play a huge role in recruitment for top houses, especially Kappa and ChiO.

I'd say another thing is that PNMs with top house connections are cut too. Just because PNMs have connections to certain houses does not guarantee them a bid.
There are a lot of LR and Fay area PNMs who know girls in top houses which can either help or hurt. Two girls on my floor from LR were cut from all the top houses even though they were friends with top house girls in hs. They claim to have been dirty rushed all year and summer.

Dirty rushing can happen without a guarantee — the girls doing the dirty rushing might not be high enough or have enough pull to get who they want.
Also if Chi O knows you have Pi Phi connection they’ll drop you because they don’t want you to drop them for Pi Phi.

I don't have any connections. I do have good grades and resumé. You're saying that there's an 90% chance that I won't have any of the top three houses on my list?
My roommates and I are all coming from out of state. We really just want a house with true sisterhood. I guess I'm wondering if we should even bother with those top houses if we are getting cut any way.

I think that’s a smart move. You really don’t have co tell anyway. Even if you rank a sorority low they can get back on your list

I’m an oos girl who went through recruitment last year. I had great grades, a strong resume, and great recs. However, I had no connections. I held on to all of the “top” houses until the end of recruitment only to be dropped. If I could do it all again, I would definitely rank the “top” houses lower at the beginning of recruitment. I wish I would have ranked other mid and lower houses higher, as I now know those are the ones I had the best chance with.

@help you’ll make it to the second round. It might not be with Chi O, Pi Phi or maybe Kappa but you’ll get to second round.
if you’re OOS with no connections you might be cut from those three but honestly you’ll prob be happier in a mid house because that’s where most of the OOS girls with no connections are.

This is true that pnms do select other houses, but I think these numbers are pretty accurate. I believe that 90% of the Pi Phi pc had connections.
