Is there even a chance?
by: Discouraged
Sitting reading these posts OOS FRESHMAN….I feel totally discouraged . Should I even bother trying?
Do I have recommendations? Yes!
Did I grow up in Arkansas ? No.
What % of PNM get cut all together?
I chose uark for the friendly people
Now I’m second guessing my decision
I have the grades
My resume is strong
This seems like I’m being set up to fail 😞

Hey girl! It is unlikely that you will be in one of the four tops (chi o, kappa, pi phi or zeta) unless you are an arkansas native or have connections within the house. But, those aren’t the only good houses, to be honest, the girls in the mid to lower houses are much nicer and down to earth. You WILL find your home! 95% of PNMs get a bid at uark, as long as you put yourself out there and put effort into how you present yourself, you will get a bid! The process sucks, trust me, but you will end up in the right place. Good luck!!!

tbh, there were 8 of us from OOS and we knew we did not have a chance at the top four houses so we decided to put at least three of them at the bottom of our lists. We did not get them back the next day. My guess is that they would have cut us anyway, but it made us focus on the other houses who would actually want to get to know us. In the end it worked out for us. We are in three different low to mid houses and could not be happier.

Every sorority has OOS girls. Every single one of them, even the top 4. ZTA is heavy Texas and KC, Kappa is heavy Dallas/Little Rock. pi Phi from all over. Chi O is mostly Ark because of legacy but they have plenty of Texas girls too. Rank in order of where you feel the most comfortable. If you get dropped, re-rank. You just need to connect with one house to be happy at UARK.

This is basically what I did as OOS. I knew I didn’t want a house that needed connections because I didn’t know anyone and I heard and it’s true that it is harder to make real friends in houses where everyone knows each other or is from Arkansas.
The miss are really the top as far as friendly, genuine, welcoming and sisterhood imo
