Is there even a chance?
by: Discouraged
Sitting reading these posts OOS FRESHMAN….I feel totally discouraged . Should I even bother trying?
Do I have recommendations? Yes!
Did I grow up in Arkansas ? No.
What % of PNM get cut all together?
I chose uark for the friendly people
Now I’m second guessing my decision
I have the grades
My resume is strong
This seems like I’m being set up to fail 😞

You will find a home, but just know it will likely not be one of the “top”. It is unlikely that you will be completely dropped from recruitment. I honestly wish I knew more coming in as an oos girl with no connections. I had recs, strong resume, and great grades. My recruitment started off great getting back my top 8 houses, including all of the “top” houses. I ranked 3 lower to mid houses at the bottom of my list. If I knew then what I know now, I would have ranked the lower to mid houses higher. Those are the houses that I had the best shot as as an oos with no connections.

If you would just substitute "top" chapters for "local to arkansas" chapters you would have the proper perspective on the chapters here. If you are not a local girl then a local chapter is not for you because that's what they want. That leaves all the others wide open for you to find your home. These chapters have beautiful mansions full of attractive, stylish, smart, fun, accomplished members. You will have the same great sorority experience, and find your best friend group and strong sisterhood in any of them except for not coming in already knowing a bunch of girls from high school/home town. Does that sound so bad?

i rushed as an OOS girl last year. i had recs, strong resume and over a 4.0 GPA. after first round cuts i was left with 5 houses, all of which are considered “mid” to “bottom” houses. this will happen to pretty much 90% of oos girls (a lot of my friends are OOS and we all had very similar experiences). just go into each round with an open mind. you will find your place! i ended up rushing a “mid” sorority and found my best friends. after those first round cuts, i was devastated and i remember my gamma chi telling me to “trust the process”. at the time i thought that was bs but it’s true. i ended up in a sisterhood i love, not because it’s “top-house” but because of how genuine and caring everyone i met in my sorority has been.

i don't know any girls who got dropped from every single house. uark has a 95% bid rate, so you're going to end up somewhere. i'm also out of state and i felt the same way you did. i got cut from 6 houses before philanthropy and i only had one house left on pref. i didn't get into a "top tier" sorority, but i've loved every minute of my sorority.
don't count yourself out before it even starts. you'll end up where you belong, even if it doesn't seem that way at first.

Every girl can find a place, even if thousands register. They reverse engineer the numbers with a computer algorithm. In a VERY basic sense, say 2300 register and around 100 drop or leave the process, that leaves 2200 to give bids to, divide by 11 and that’s a quota of 200 per house.
All of the chapters will have around the same number of bids given out.

I had zero connections as well and a stellar resume. All but chi o kept me until pref. I had hopes of taking pi phi and zeta to pref but zeta cut me. Pi phi and KD left on pref and I guess I wasn’t high enough on pi phi to get a bid. Truth be told I ranked them higher because of this site. I loved loved the girls that rushed me from KD! Going into my senior year now and I can say I have had the best Greek experience! You don’t need a top house to have that!
