Why girls drop
by: OP
most of the time, dropping has nothing to do with the sorority in particular. the only reasons why top houses have higher retention rates is 1) less members pay their own dues 2) they want to stay because they already knew girls and had friends 3) they want the status
#1 money. sometimes parents will stop paying. girls will lose their jobs. dues will increase. especially as girls get older, they don’t think it’s worth the money anymore.
#2 rules. all sororities have very similar rules. you can’t post with illegal substances, you can’t be publicly offensive, stuff like that.
#3 requirements. all sororities have study hours, gpa requirements, service hours, mandatory events, points, etc. you will be fined/ not allowed to attend an event if you don’t meet these requirements. many girls would rather drop than spend time and effort doing these things.
#4 not making friends. honestly, most girls will make friends in their sorority if they are involved and put in effort. a lot of girls that drop do so before they put in effort or time into it. however, bullying does exist in sororities unfortunately. and sometimes you just don’t fit the vibe of the chapter. one of my friends was in a sorority with mostly party girls. despite her efforts, she didn’t fit in. there are different types of girls in every chapter but i would advise you to avoid chapters that are completely opposite to your vibe and lifestyle if you want to be close to girls that are similar to you.
the tldr is that being in a sorority isn’t for everyone. girls who drop would have dropped no matter what sorority they were in. just something to keep in mind!
