Why are most Texas kids iced out of Rush?

by: BoxedOut

Whats the deal with the UArk fraternities and sororities not letting in kids from Texas?

Seems weird its a thing.

I don’t think it’s a Texas thing. I think it’s just if you’re OOS you don’t know people and it’s hard when you don’t have connections.

Truth is it’s not as difficult if your not trying for a top house. Connections are the number one thing you need! If more texas kids gave a lower ranked house a chance than they wouldn’t be complaining. Fiji has a lot of Dallas guys. I think for sororities prob zeta has the most texas girls

That’s fair. But I heard some hav an actual quota on letting in Texas kids. And for some it’s like 1-2%. If so, why even try.

It’s all connections based, if you don’t have anyone pulling for you in a house, it’s hard as hell to get in. There are just too many PNMs and the majority are in state, so they know someone. If I had known this I would have waited a semester, met people then rushed.

I don't think this is accurate. There are lots of new pledges from Texas.

You obviously are not from Texas or oos. Texas kids from larger cities like Dallas and Houston have connections at UArk. If you're from a smaller town oos and don't have connections, rush is tough. You definitely are not getting a top house. The other houses are great. I just wish I would have known before rush. I would have ranked differently.

This is as wrong as it gets. If anything Texas kids have the most pull. Texas is like 70% if the kids at UARK. They are over half of the kids in each house.

High percentage of freshman class but break down Panhellenic and IFC chapters by oos vs in state. And then by chapter for this round of new members. Can’t argue with numbers, either way.

We can all make guesses on if it’s true but look at the numbers. if there’s a few hundred students in a chapter and only 6 are from TX then- maybe oos feel blocked for a reason.

Yea some chapters are more open to oos. Some aren’t at all even for legacies. It’s been a thing here for decades.

also not true. oos students make up 40-50% of incoming freshmen. of that oos percentage, over 80% are from Texas.

Texas kids made up about half of the freshman class this year. I can't speak for fraternities, but I can tell you that 75% girls I talked to during rush were from Little Rock, Rogers, Bentonville, or another Arkansas town.

There are over 7,500 incoming freshmen. Almost 2300 went through npc recruitment and 1500 went through IFC. That means 3700 did not go through recruitment. A lot of oos students choose not to rush. Those who do usually end up in a house that they don't need connections for.

Half of the freshman this year are oos. Half of those are from Texas. That’s 25% not 80
