2022 recruitment review

by:

A year like no other!!
Over 2300 pnm’s!
Media attention on bama rush takes off leaving houses scrambling to make catchy original social media post.
Work week takes a turn for pi phi which I won’t disclose for fear of this post being taken down. I think pi phi is an amazing sorority and know they overcame the rocky start to rush week.
Videos takes the place of an in person first round leaving the more unpolished pnm’s and chapters at a disadvantage
Mid houses ( especially tri delt ) cut in record numbers after round one leaving many sad, scared pnm’s.
DG made its way out of the bottom three spot with many pnm’s being impressed with their video
Cuts before sisterhood surprises even the gamma chi’s with top houses not making it to five party day
Axo had their best recruitment in years
Pnm’s had no problem preffing phi mu over a higher ranked house
Zeta shocked everyone ( including zetas I have talked too) with their amazing recruitment and exceptional bid day. No doubt zeta recruitment at Alabama gave them an emotional boost as well as awakening some pnm’s to their chapter at the beginning of rush.
Chi omega did suffer some cuts however per usual they still had the highest retention rate leading up to pref.
Kappa suffered more cuts than usual ( as did all top houses) however their biggest disappointment came from a lack luster bid day. Their pledge class deserved more effort.
All in all I do think times are changing even faster than houses can keep up. The competition between houses have amped up with social media proving that it is even more important to pnm’s than grades and awards. The lack of newer houses on campus is a real struggle for everyone involved in uark rush and the amount pressure put on the current houses to guide and have their pledges flourish has to be overwhelming. The amount of effort that must take place for the leadership to simply carry on chapter meetings, ceremonies as well as the astronomical task of smoothly ran functions can not be under valued.
Best of luck to all the amazing 11 houses at uark and to the over 2100 new members of Greek life!

I am sure most of this true but just shaking my head and not understanding why everyone feels the need to protect pi phi but has no problem bringing up kappas bid day over and over??

well i think as whole pi phi is just more liked on campus. maybe this was written by someone cut by kappa or knows rude kappas or maybe this is a pi phi? it’s out there they had a rocky start no reason to try and deny it.

I think it’s about expectations. Kappa wants to compare themselves to chi o on here but having taking both houses to sisterhood a year ago I can say that chi o puts in more effort and they for sure don’t have to. They have girls in Arkansas wanting their house since puberty and gets favored by Panhellenic with heavy cut numbers. Girls go into recruitment with very high expectations of kappa and they have unfortunately fallen short the past couple of years. Pi phi did well despite their troubles and kappa did well despite themselves.

I agree a thousand percent! I just went through recruitment and had very high expectations of kappa that was not met. I had two connections in kappa and although they rushed me I wasn’t made to feel special. I pledged a house I had zero connections in because I felt awesome and wanted everytime I walked through the door. Ranks meant nothing to me and I actually thought they would before rush.

This is all so true and I really am struggling to see how functions ect… will happen with these type of numbers! I am glad I am just a sophomore and don’t have to worry about any of that. Next year they should try and control the number of girls going through recruitment.

I know Fayetteville has relatively small venues. I can’t imagine how that is going to work?
Post was informative! I agree it seems weird no one wants to talk any crap on pi phi though. They ain’t all angels….

I came on here for fun but after seeing things on pi phi I decided to do some sleuthing. I remember work week there was a photo leaked but nothing horrible to ruin a rush. Then I see people asking if someone quit. It can’t be this easy and I may be wrong but I immediately think of rush chair. I find out who their rush chair is and unlike all the other five rush chairs I checked insta and she has nothing past work week. No post at all. Could it be that simple? If so that took me about five min to figure out. But ya that could throw a sorority for a loop.

What difference does it make? Like everyone says, they worked through it and they did well anyway.

@? Quite the opposite. These post I was reading made it seem like pi phi did something horrible. If that is the truth and the recruitment chair quit then that just goes to show the strength of the chapter. I have nothing against pi phi at all. The fact they had a great recruitment in spite of that is awesome!

To me the videos for round one seem to help the lower ranked houses. They could put their most fun members and memories front and center for the pnm’s to see and not have to worry about actives not being nervous in front of pnm’s and being able to carrying on the conversation. That happened to me last year in a lower ranked house. I had to calm her nerves and ask her questions! It makes me feel sad members would feel like they have so much to prove to pnm’s that may turn their nose down at them. On flip side I have heard from pnm’s that watching chi o’s video took away some
of the “illusion” of chi o. I have mad respect that they showcased the diversity they have in house. Chi o was cut first round but to be fair girls that cut them were most likely going to be cut anyway. Still the videos made me happy for newer houses to get out of the dreaded bottom three rank!

Reading this I basically agree with everything. I think top houses will risk losing their spot because of how they changed up the way pnm’s rank. Going bottom up will change the cut numbers for next year and some houses may lose their exclusive status. Look for kappa to continue to fall.
