no spring rush or COB if all houses reach quota.

No, any house which is below campus total can COB in the spring semester. Quota is the number of new members a chapter can take during formal recruitment, but campus total is what controls COB and informal recruitment. Per NPC policy, campus total is set two times a year -- right after formal recruitment and again the first week of the next semester (when there is no formal recruitment). If a chapter has a lot of women leave or graduate at the end of fall semester, it may fall below the new campus total set at the beginning of spring semester, and it can COB.

Thank you for your pedantic chiming in, person who looked that up but doesn't go here. The truth, from people here who know, is that the chapters are already huge and most really don't want to COB. We hope chapter total is set low for this reason.

If you still have 2houses for pref, I would advise you to attend those parties. Sometimes your attitude toward them will change after pref. If after pref, you are still not feeling it, DON’T SIGN your MRABA card. Tell Panhellenic you don’t want to join at this time.

To continue, if you do sign your MRABA and receive a bid from one of your pref sororities, you will be bound to that sorority for one year, if you drop before you are initiated. If you were to drop after you are initiated, you could never rush again.

A house will only do COB if they don’t meet quota this fall (unlikely) or if they have enough members drop/graduate by spring. The houses that usually do it are ADPi, AOPi, AXO, DG, and Phi Mu. When you COB, you express interest to a girl in that chapter that you would like to join her chapter, or maybe reach out to the chapter on Instagram or email. Most people are only going to one chapter’s events, MAYBE 2. Basically they’ll do a couple things to get to know you (ice cream social, etc) and if they vibe with you they’ll extend a bid. If you still have houses left, I would suggest taking your bid and at least giving it until initiation before deciding to drop for COB. Especially if the houses you have I have listed.

If you sign the card after the Pref parties you will not be eligible to COB for a full year. So if your not feeling it, drop out of recruitment and don’t complete the card.

Then if any house is doing COB you would eligible, but most houses won’t COB someone they already cut, so if you are thinking of dropping out, hoping to get a COB from a house that already cut you, that almost never happens. Once cut, always cut.

Hard disagree. Don't drop before pref. Go to pref, because it often causes a distinct change of heart. After pref you don't have to sign if you aren't moved enough to want to join.

The rule is that if you are offered a bid and don't accept, or accept and then drop, you may not accept another bid that year and must wait again until fall recruitment. So don't sign your card unless you are sure you want a bid from the house or houses you pref. SIP is an option if you would rather not be in a sorority at all if you don't get that one house. But there really is no organized spring rush week where you go around to houses who can offer bids, it's just houses doing COB. It all depends on how panhellenic sets the Chapter Total number. The chapters who are under by just a few might decide not to take anyone at all, or they usually just privately reach out to girls they already know and offer bids with no event. Houses that can offer more than a handful might have a private event or two to target some girls they already have on their radar, or again, just privately offer some bids. Either way, you would have to make it known you want a spring bid and you really have to know actives in the houses to get one. With all that said, please go to pref if you still have a house or two, because sometimes that is a game changer for pnm's who weren't feeling it. When you are there, look around at the other pnm's; a lot of these would be the ones comprising your new member class and the ones who will make or break your sorority experience. You will become close with them, go through 4 years with them, and form your best friend group with these girls, not the ones who are rushing you.

and I'd be aware that a lot of houses won't do spring rush since they will be getting so many new members this weekend.

I saw on another post where someone suggested some of the pnms that aren't really happy with what they have left to all get together and decide on a house bc they will all be together! All of the houses offer the same as far as sisterhood, parties etc...

That's not going to affect how your pref houses rank you. That is the first thing that drives the process.
