What is with these cuts
by: Why?As an alum, rush nowadays is nothing like it used to be; it use to be fun now all I’ve heard is how upsetting and wrong it has become.

Well Hag, why don't you put down that glass of chilled rose remember the "good old days" where houses like DDD and Pi Phi would keep inviting back huge numbers of girls each round (including pref) who they had NO INTENTION of ever extending a bid, just so it seemed they were being more exclusive. Those girls would then get cut on bid day, which was incredibly brutal. Those same girls could have been cut earlier and spent time getting to know houses that they (the PNM) cut earlier because they felt they had a real chance at DDD/Pi Phi/Chi O/Zeta, etc.
My mom and my aunt (who are both alumna of one of the "top" houses) told me about how brutal it was, and how their house would have separate lists with the girls they actually wanted, and the "party filler" girls. That sort of thing made the whole system more elitist and much more cruel (though obviously, you seem to think that was a better way of doing things).
The problem now, I think, is these girls who are so self-absorbed that they can't get over social influencing, etc.
The new system (well, not so new anymore) allows more options for girls to get involved in Greek life. If a girl is so obsessed with just one or two houses (i.e., KKG Chi) that she feels life is over if she does not receive a bid, that young lady has many more problems than sorority recruitment.

Do you think it would be better in the future if they can put a cap on how many can register for recruitment?
The pledge classes are sooo big and it seems like rush is crazy this year with all the cuts- even the “lower” tier sororities and making pretty big cuts this last round.

I am an old hag, and I think the U of A should go to a deferred recruitment system so freshman and get acclimated to school and get a front row seat to see what the greek system is really like. They might decide they are ok without, and see first hand the true character behind a house-just like who ever would call an older greek alumni a"hag". Such a shame to be so disrespectful of the people who have come before you to make the greek system what it is today.

I am an old hag too. And rush has always been stressful. It is not anymore stressful now than it was before. Hearts were broken and tears were shed and girls would be just as devastated when they were cut. It's the same now, but the two big differences now are the entitlement and social media. Entitlement in that every single pnm coming in has been raised that she is amazing and wonderful and a real top girl. So very very accomplished. That's great, well done. But then they come here, a large Southern university, and the reality is that 90% of the other girls are amazing and wonderful and real top girls too. All are very very accomplished. So all of a sudden, so many of these girls are not as successful as they are used to being when in this new pool of other very successful people, and they are not handling it well, but instead acting entitled to everything still going the way they want. Social media comes into play because now these entitled girls have multiple means to vent their outrage at not being so special anymore. And what they can only come up with, is that it's certainly not them, because they are a real top girl. There's obviously something wrong with the system. The system is wrong! And bad! That is the only explanation for them in their entitled world. It's not going to get easier for any of them until they settle down into the reality that, while they have some exceptional qualities, there is always someone else just as good, or better.

Until Panelnic creates some rules and boundaries. Great girls with no connections have NO CHaNCE.
Every house wants to recruit the great girls from their HS and their friends.
If there’s this many girls wanting to RUSh they should have a Fall and Spring PC or add more sorority houses.
A sorority is supposed to bring women together and help us make new friends and encourage us to be the best we can be.
It’s very disappointing that there’s a lot of great girls that don’t stand a chance bc they are not from the same zip code, HS or friend group.

I’m literally 25, not a hag. Recruitment was better when I rushed. Now with this first-round video cut, it’s sad to see girls who aren’t even given a chance to meet all the houses before getting cut. How they did things, this year is NOT ok. Each year it’s getting worse and worse. I can’t imagine how it will be in 5 to 10 years.
