Pref and bids and how things work
by: Clearing something upThere seems to be some confusion about pref, ranking, and bids that I hope I can clear up. If you attend a pref party, or two pref parties, and you rank the sororities whose pref parties you attended 1 ( your favorite) and 2( the other house you saw) you will get a bid. If your names appears on your number 1’s list before they reach quota, you will get a bid from them. if your name appears after they reach quota, the computer will see what position your name is on your 2nd choice’s list. If they placed your name before they reach quota, you will get a bid from your #2. (Your #2 will not know they were your second choice.). If both sororities reach quota before your name comes up, you will be a quota addition to either chapter, but you will have a bid. If you only attended one pref party and put them as your #1 choice, you will get a bid from them. Once you make it to pref, the only way you would not get a bid is to only list one chapter when you attended two parties (SIP- single intentional preference), and the chapter you SIPed got to quota before your name came up on their list. In that case you would not be eligible for a quota addition, but you might get a snap bid ( which happens after bid lists have been matched, but bids have not been distributed) or could get a bid during COB, if any chapter could COB, which happens after bids have been distributed.

Unless you got one or were on your sorority’s recruitment team or on Panhellenic, you wouldn’t know who got one because those girls get their bids before the bid day parties begin and they join in the celebration just like everyone else. That being said, they are not a something to count on.

I don't think you're eligible for a snap bid if you drop/quit. You must remain in the process. A snap bid occurs when a house you previously visited has not filled their quota from pref night. They can choose to offer a bid to you at that point.
