Recruitment is stupid
by: DisillusionedI am a freshman PNM and am so over this. I count myself lucky to have 4 houses still, but I am thinking about dropping out. Many of my friends are in tears right now after being cut heavily. Sororities are supposed to empower women and lift them up, but this week instead leaves many previously strong, confident young women feeling inadequate because a bunch of 20 year old girls are judging them. don’t think I want to be Greek enough to put up with all this bull- - - -

Recruitment is hard for everyone involved. At the end of the week you can only have one house. I only had 5 houses when I rushed - and honestly it helped me focus in on those houses that invited me back. Just know that every house on campus is a great house! Unfortunately you found this site which leads people to believe that ranks matter - they don’t at all! No one on campus cares about your letters! You can find your people in any house - Greek life is about sisterhood, not ranks. Get some rest and look at things with fresh eyes and an open mind tomorrow. ❤️

Let's look at the numbers:
If there are 2200ish PNMs, that means PCs are going to be 200 girls. A certain amount of PNMs drop every year. Let's use 200 as an example. Now PCs are going to be around 175. The odds of you getting in to any house are around 9%. That percent goes down even more if 1000 PNMs all rank one particular house #1.
There is nothing wrong with you.

You have four houses left. They are full of amazing girls, just like you, that probably just didn’t have connections. Cuts will be made. You can only have one at the end.
Sorority recruitment is not mandatory. It’s not a scholarship competition. Were you aware of the process before you registered? It is set up so that all the houses get approximately the same size pledge class-which is to everyone’s benefit. There are lots of great clubs at the U of A that are open to anyone that wants to join. If you think the process is degrading then you should definitely consider joining one of those instead.
#7by: Early cuts
The hard part right now is that the most popular/desired sororities had to make HUGE cuts at the beginning of the process. That’s how it works on every campus and it is hard. There are a lot is hurt feelings. Get to know the houses that invites you back…everyone ends up with just one at the end. Hang in there!
#8by: Hang in there
Hang in there PNMs! You can only accept a bid to one house on Bid Day, so concentrate on the houses that saw something special in you! Once on campus, nobody cares what house you are in, it’s not high school and there isn’t a “popular” group. Go find your new sisters and enjoy all the things Greek life offers! You’ve got this!!!

It is broken. The cut number given by Panhellenic only helps the top houses. The pnm’s who have two houses left after round shouldn’t trust a process that hurts them as well
