First round cuts = brutal

There were so many girls in tears this morning. I didn't know the first round cuts would be so bad. We kept hearing that they cut for grades first round. We all had 4.0 and higher. We had letters of recommendations and good reputations. I don't know what happened. So many of us only have 3-5 houses left.

that was me two years ago! my roommate had an almost perfect rush while mine was harsh. i ended up in a much higher rank house than her. it only takes one! and she is a leader in her house and we are both happy!

I’m sorry to hear that! I don’t know who told you first round cuts are based on grades alone. Unfortunately, many of the “top” houses do already know who they want, it’s friends from high school or camp, family friends, or legacies that alumni are pushing hard for. Maybe these girls even have a worse GPA than you, they just happen to know the right people. Don’t take it personally, none of the girls that are in those houses even know you, so it’s not like they cut you because they don’t like you. They just can’t invite everyone back. 3-5 is still great and your house is in there! When I rushed and we did it the old way where first round was in person, I also only got 5 houses back for Phil and was pretty crushed, but managed to keep all 5 for sisterhood as well and had a good pref experience. Just let it roll off you and enjoy your week!

This is hard. I’m cut by the usual chi o and kappa (kappa was mutual) but also cut by kd, which I really liked, and zeta.

Then you and your group are lucky. Most of the pmns I know were cut by all but two or three. I'd be excited to have five this round. I'm scared that the two I have will release me before I can make it to pref.

If that ends up happening, I promise you won’t be the only person and beg you to not take it personal. I don’t know how many girls are going through but it is MUCH different than it was when I went through. Back then, a lot of times if you got cut out it was bc of an iffy reputation. NOT NOW. My best friends from college were not in my sorority….not in any sorority. Promise yourself you will have fun REGARDLESS!!
