Yes, your gamma chi submits your rankings. Don’t worry about how you rank out of fear of hurting her feelings. They are all prepared for this and understand - sometimes you just don’t vibe and that’s okay. Stay true to yourself. Just be positive and don’t speak negatively about any house!

They sure do. I felt pressured to discuss the houses with my gamma chi last year and I didn’t like it. Thankfully I had found out what house she was in. I wasn’t going to speak negative about any house but I knew the house I wanted all week wasn’t liked on campus ( thanks to this site) and I could tell she didn’t like me ranking them first every night. I wish they were not allowed to see how we rank or talk to us about the different houses.

That’s a gamma chi’s job. They are there to help pnms talk through feelings about each house on their schedules. When I rushed my gamma chi was so supportive of the house I really wanted all week even though it wasn’t hers. Maybe you just didn’t vibe with yours but it doesn’t mean everyone will have your experience - most won’t.

PNMs: trust your gamma chi. She truly only wants what is best for you. She’s your friend, mom, and confidante throughout the week and only wants to see your excitement opening your envelope on bid day!

okay, hold up. I was a gamma chi last year and unfortunately I couldn't do it again this year due to an internship. I know first hand what the gamma chi's will go through so I'm not going to allow anyone to speak even somewhat negatively on them. As @well said, maybe you just didn't vibe with yours. But let me tell you what your gamma chi's will go through. Right now, they are training on how to do with not only pnms emotions, but their own. Your gamma chi gets emotionally invested in each and every girl in her group. She hurts when they hurt after getting cut from a house they really liked. She gets excited with them when they get invited back. You know how you feel (or should feel) about your little, well multiply that times how ever many they have in their group. They won't sleep for a week, literally. Very early mornings and very late nights. It's physically and emotionally draining. So why do gamma chi's do it? Because they want the best for the pnms! They only have their best interest in mind. They only want what's best for them and to see them happy in the end. Yes, it stinks if you see your house getting ranked lower but I mean the odds of the pnms ranking your house number 1 every time are pretty slim. It's not something go get upset about anyway because all houses here are wonderful and the pnms will be happy anywhere if they give it a chance. Since you're obviously an active now, how about you support the gamma chis? There are gamma chis from your house as well!

@kendra the reason they try to get you to talk about the houses is so you can work through YOUR feelings. Too many girls listen to the outside noise of friends, family, etc instead of following their heart.

@okay @well. If that was Kendra’s experience than that was her experience. Are there amazing gamma chi’s out there? Absolutely. Are there gamma chi’s out there that are not confidential and can persuade a pnm one way or the other? Absolutely. I went through in 2020 and if I had to do it all over again I would keep my mouth shut! Gamma chi’s do share info with girls they shouldn’t. Is this a small percentage of gamma chi’s? Hopefully but I also know this from first hand experience as well! Sorry if this offends the amazing gamma chi’s out there but that is my truth.

I would like to add that I am not trying to not be supportive of the gamma chi’s. This is me telling pnm’s they do not have to tell their pnm anything if that makes them more comfortable and if I could go back I would have stayed quiet. I am sure it’s the hardest job and most are amazing. They are not equally ethical. Pnm’s can choose to believe me or not but I have no reason to lie.

This is an unpopular opinion but DONT share opinions with your Gamma Chi. Yes, you will have to tell her your house ranks and she can draw her own conclusions but you do NOT have to provide reasons why you ranked each house where. I’m my opinion, gamma chi’s are not as good at keep things quiet as they claim they are. Just rank and move on. I promise you don’t need their opinion to help you select a house. They don’t know you better than you know you. If you like a house and they don’t, who cares? If you don’t like their house, who cares? Recruitment is about YOU not offending or pleasing your Gamma Chi’s.

okay, i get that. maybe there have been some gc's that haven't been as confidential as they're supposed to be. but let's say she's telling her own house if her group likes them or hates them - how is that helping them? each gc only has a handful of pnms. if the gc gives her house inside info like that a certain pnm hates them and they cut her, aren't they doing the pnm a favor? or if she likes them, same concept. there's nothing to gain from it.

Getting cut from a house does NOTHING to get a PNM asked back anywhere else. If the Gamma Chi's house cuts her because they are told she ranks them low, then that's NOT a favor, it's one more choice eliminated for that PNM, which she might be grateful for later. The pnm wants as many choices as possible, because only if she gets back more invitations than a round allows will her ranks kick in. Most PNM's aren't that lucky and the sororities' drops determine her options. This is why the sororities shouldn't know how they are being ranked, and the pnm's shouldn't know how they are being ranked either. They might end up together in the end and be very happy.

Here is how it will hurt a pnm! If a pnm has several houses she really likes but always ranks the gammas house third and the gamma tells that house than guess what? They will cut her! Now go into pref and one of her top two cut her. She now has a random house and a fav. The favorite sorority doesn’t rank her high enough and she ends up in a house she ranked much much lower all week because now her gamma took option three away from her!

Frankly I think this only happens with ego driven top houses. Kappa can’t risk losing so many tops to pi phi again so I fully expect some unethical conversations this year. Zero chance I would talk about these two houses in particular with my gamma chi! It actually makes me angry for the pnm’s they have to show them their rankings.

dude why is pi phi sooooooo obsessed with "stealing" PNMs from Kappa? I'm sure Kappa has "stolen" a bunch from y'all too. if y'all are this caught up on it, makes me think you're not the selective "top" y'all claim to be if you're that shocked you got PNMs you weren't expecting

Just saw this and would have to agree that I don’t think you should open up much to your gamma chi. Why even risk it? I also know some are not as confidential as they should be!
