advice for pnms

by:

please please pleaseeeee do not tell any active in a sorority that you will go/are in love with a certain house. greek life is a tight knit community and odds are other sororities already know. when i rushed i totally favored one house and got dropped first round, so for y’all’s sake do not tell anyone ur fav house before recruitment starts.

You got dropped from the house you wanted because you told people you wanted that house?

no i didn’t have enough rec letters but u can go in really wanting a house and they can drop u at any point. moral of the story don’t put all ur eggs in one basket.

Do you mind me asking what house cut you for not having enough rec letters?

all i’ll say is that u should aim to have at least 2 letters per house to be safe.

Take this advice. You don't want members of a sorority to think you consider them sloppy seconds.

To add the the OP’s advice, don’t tell any sorority who you like. If a sorority member should ask “Who are you liking so far?” Just say “Everyone! I am having so much fun!” And switch the conversation to a different subject. If you are asked “Who are you returning to today”, say “ I was so excited to see your house on my list. I had such a great time learning about your blah, blah, blah…”. and switch the subject. If you are really disappointed that a favorite did not show up on you list, talk to your Gamma Chi or a close friend, but not to your whole rush group and certainly don’t tell any houses you visit that day. It’s best to keep your feelings and invitation lists limited to as few people as possible. Do, however, let sorority members know when you had a good time at their house, and toward the end of rush week, it’s ok to let a house know you could see yourself there.
