What is Quota Edition and are PNMS ranked 1-160
by: HiHi, I was wondering what are Quota Edition girls and are girls specifically ranked 1-160whatever for bid day at each house? Like they have a #1 PNM and then 164 that they liked just enough to get a bid? Just read a diff post about this stuff and I’m confused and hoping that I wasn’t a quota edition at my house lol.

you will never find out who the quota editions are in your house. panhellenic will know and that’s about it. after they have gone through placing everyone ( yes houses will rank the girls numbers 1-300 or however many they took to pref) then if quota additions are needing they will do it then.
example…. pi phi reaches quota after matching who the girls put first and pi phi ranked high enough on their pref list.the girls who are left will get their second choice. let’s say they have a handful of girls that have pi phi and chi o on pref and BOTH houses have reached quota. the system is set up to make sure girls get a bid so they will then ask either pi phi or chi o to take a quota addition. the house chosen to have a quota addition is based on a variety of factors. where the girl put them, how low they were ranked for the houses ( if chi o she was number 175 but at pi phi she was ranked 298 she may possibly go to chi o even though she put pi phi first), how many quota additions are needed for each of the houses ect…. rarely are there more then five quota additions per house. lower ranked houses are protected as well to make sure they can fill a pledge class. it’s a complicated system that is in place to ensure as many girls get a bid as possible!
if your invited back to pref than a house does want to give you a bid. they can’t give everyone a bid ofcourse. how the girls are then ranked for bid matching depends on the house. from what i have been told it could be a complicated point system or something super simple such as legacies first, close connections, then girls with other top houses on pref at the bottom of their list.

You're a pnm, aren't you, not an active, because no active would be asking this question, and no pnm would ask this question after she has received a bid. First of all, it's Quota Addition, not edition. Second, anyone invited to a sorority's pref is viewed as very likely to become their sister, and that's not taken lightly. So if you are even invited to a pref, it means that house WANTS you and there are actives in that house pulling for you. Third, the only ones in any sorority who know how pnm's are ranked are just a few people on their recruitment committee, and that information isn't shared with the chapter because it doesn't matter; a bid is a bid and all those pnm's are then new members, equally. And last, an algorithm does the bid matching and quota additions, so again, only a very few recruitment committee members of their see their final bid matching results, and they don't share and no one cares because it's time to celebrate the new members.

Houses rank every single one of the pnm's they take to pref. Some houses have more pnm's at pref than others, but all are assigned a rank for bid matching purposes. Each sorority has their own membership selection process to determine their ranked bid list; however, the chapter as a whole does not know these rankings. The final list is submitted for the algorithm to run the matches, and the sororities receive their list of bids for bid day.

is it true that if we have two houses on pref and we tell the one we’re ranking second “thanks but no thanks” you’re more likely to get your first choice? I was told that because your second choice will put you relatively lower on their bid list and you’ll most likely match with you first choice.

You said “girls with other top houses on pref at the bottom” — how do the sororities know who a PNM has on pref?
