What is a Rush Crush

This is a good time to point out something: Rush is emotional for pnm's and the actives. When a pnm gets dropped from a house she loved, she is crushed and sometimes cries. She doesn't know what happened to get dropped. I guarantee you, the same thing is happening in a sorority when favorite girls don't come back; it hurts and we cry, and we don't know if they didn't get the chapter vote or they didn't rank us high enough. It's a numbers game, and we have to make the cuts that we are told to make, and it's a chapter decision as a whole. Just because you didn't get invited back doesn't mean that you were dismissed, or not liked, or not good enough, or that we don't want to be your friend.

Yes! This can not be stressed enough especially if you make to pref but have another house on bid day. The numbers can get messy with Panhellenic ensuring every girl gets a house. Sometimes even we are shocked at who doesn’t get a bid. We also get very sad:(

This happened to me. I had two houses I ADORED on pref and the decision was so hard in itself and I got lucky because I was going to be so happy in either. However opening your bid card with your gamma chi bff and it being a different house than you said you preferred is just embarrassing. I was happy to be in my house, but i was just shocked and hurt i got cut from the other. I had no idea what happened I was friends with people on exec in the other house. I want to say it was an error but that’s probably just trying to make myself feel better.

You didn't get cut, you just didn't match with them before they reached quota. You were probably just below the cut-off number. They saw you as sister material or you wouldn't have been invited to their pref. It really is all numbers and algorithm driven. It still hurts though, and is so baffling when you are blind-sided like that. There were those in the chapter who felt the same way, guaranteed. Happens every year but glad you are happy in your house.

It happened to me also. I had Chi O and ZTA on pref. I 100% knew which one I wanted, and planned for it. Opening that bid card and seeing the other sorority’s name on it was something you can’t possibly prepare for. Everyone around me was jumping up and down screaming with excitement, and I was standing there just floored. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. In an instant I had to redirect myself and run to my new house instead of the one I envisioned myself in. It was definitely hard and they were real feelings. I’ve learned to love my house, and wouldn’t change it even if I could now, but I didn’t have the happy bid day experience everyone sees on camera.
It does happen, so don’t have your heart set on one because the same thing may very well happen to you.

Before someone comes @ me, I know the videos show the positive, and I know we should all be happy with whatever house we get. I’m just saying I appreciate the info True Stuff shared because it’s not all rainbows and sunshine.
I can either watch TikToks and insta of perfect looking sorority experiences or I can come here and read how mean people are to each other. There’s not a lot of real info out there.
And yes, I could also get a life and not research Greek stuff but I’m excited and nervous. And you’re on here, too! 🤣

it’s worth noting without a first round this will be more difficult. cuts will be made without the opportunity for someone to fall in love with a pnm. top houses cut pretty deep first round.
