The truth about why UARK recruitment is so difficult!

We all have heard how difficult recruitment is at UARK Most people would agree it is THE hardest in the country with Alabama being second. They usually have a few more hundred girls go through but five or six more sorority houses that can give out bids! Now that I have been on both sides here is my take as to why it is so difficult here.
1) It is extremely difficult for ranks to change due to cut numbers given each night to top houses. Reputable sororities do not care to invest in large sums of money for the mega mansions that would be required in order to be competitive here. DG is an amazing national sorority that does not deserve to be at the bottom indefinitely due to the system.
2) Luck Luck and more Luck is THE only thing that will secure you a bid to a top house if you do not have a connection. Luck that either someone on the recruitment team is so enamored with your video and resume that they pair you with a great girl that will then fall in love with you and give her time and energy recruitment week convincing others to feel the same way. Luck that your mom is best friends with a very powerful chi o alum that pulls strings for you with their recruitment team. Pi phi also has very involved alums that could help get girls to bid day.
3)It has been said before but the truth is more girls than not have amazing resumes. Girls that are not very involved, struggle in school ect… often are the girls that do not go through recruitment. The vast majority of girls that go through are involved with 3.5 gpa’s or better. 4.0 or 3.567 does not make a difference for a top house. So for all you 4.0 girls just know that. My roommate/best friend since day one biology class is in a top house and has giving me all the tea.
4) This isn’t your average southern school ( like Alabama) where your looks will get you an invite to the top house parties. I promise you based on looks alone you will not be able to tell a top house girl from a lower sorority. I may give an exception to the zetas who are known to recruit on looks but there are plenty of average looking zetas as well. They are fairly involved on campus so I would not say you could get a bid on looks alone even if you are stunning. I will add the same thing goes for kappa with wealth. You can’t buy your way in unless you bring something else to the table. It’s still 95 percent about having a connection.
5)Greek Rank. I came on here as well because I am from out of state and had no connections. I did not get very far with any of the top four houses. I am a cute girl with a great resume. Luckily this site prepared me for the cuts that came. No one wants to be cut from all the tops houses which greek rank so clearly highlights post after post. It human nature to want to have a full schedule of houses each round and it was very depressing when I opened my schedule. I am in a lower mid house and am very happy so just know that it only takes one house to receive a bid and enjoy greek life at the university of Arkansas!
I hope this is helpful for any pnm like myself that believes she is the full package but found recruitment here extremely difficult. It is the system it is not you!

People are so worried about labels, and everyone aspires to be admired and thought of as a top person, and are worried that if they end up in a 'bottom' or 'mid' house it means they are a 'bottom' or 'mid' person, and therefore couldn't make the cut, unworthy, a social failure in college. That is tough when you are just starting this brand new phase of your life. But the absolute truth is that there are bottom and mid girls in 'top' houses and top girls in 'mid' and 'bottom' houses and everyone knows who these are. YOU will be judged here by everyone you meet all the time, but on your own merits; YOUR personality, YOUR attitude, YOUR style, YOUR beauty, YOUR accomplishments. You will not automatically be beautiful, rich, and highly desired if you get into a 'top' anymore than you will be thought not attractive or less-than if you are in a 'mid' or 'bottom' house. No one will fawn over someone or worship at their feet when they are a loose, sloppy, arrogant entitled witch, and no one will discount a sweet, funny, cute, genuine girl. ALL HOUSES HAVE ALL KINDS. It's up to you, not your letters, to make or break your experience being Greek.

This is so true! I do think times are changing though with more and more out of state girls going through recruitment. I believe in the past couple of years pnm’s have been going through recruitment with more of an open mind focusing on how they felt in certain houses and not simply going off of ranks. Still it’s tough with the top houses being told to cut such a large percentage first round. These sororities do not even know if pnm’s ranked them low because most likely they were already on the cut list.

Which is sad really, because all Arkansas Panhellenic does is cause someone who was brave enough and had the determination to actually go off to college to meet new people in reality gets you cut from the top sororities.
I know, there are very, very few exceptions. But for the most part, if nobody knows you..they won’t give you a chance. They don’t even look at your resume or ridiculous video.

Just stop it. The "top" sororities do not have anything going for them that any other sorority has to offer, and not getting a bid to one of them does not limit your Greek experience, your college experience, or your life after all that in any way whatsoever. Any sorority: new friends? check; sisterhood? check; social life? check; involvement? check; connections to anything you want? double check. Life here does not begin and end in four houses with certain letters. To buy into that is losing your grip on real life.

I disagree, but that’s ok. I see what girls of the top sororities do in their free time vs what the girls in average sororities do in their free time. There IS a difference.

So "Bella" is taking notes on what actives do in 'their free time'? Sorority by sorority? Doubtful would be putting it mildly, and stating that "Bella" is actually a greekrank troll and not a sorority active here would be a lot closer to the truth.

i don’t know if you were talking about in the nation or just the SEC, but UT austin has the most brutal recruitment in the country. unlike uark, ALL the girls are very smart and have amazing resumes. cuts really aren’t made based off of those things. cuts are made based on looks, money, connections, and legacy status.

So if your saying UT rush is based off of looks, money, legacy status and connections then to me your saying it’s easier. For sure no more than ten percent of the top houses pledge class make it without one thing….CONNECTIONS! I agree with original post. Intelligence alone will not get you into Pi Phi, money alone will not get you into kappa, looks alone will not get you into zeta, and you sure as heck will not get a bid from chi o ( even if you have all three) if you do not have a connection!

Not trying to set up a 'who's better' competition because they are two different but difficult rushes, so just facts: UT Austin has an acceptance rate of around 30% compared to UA's 80%, so with grades and resumes already gimme's they aren't considered in their rush. What matters are connections, legacy, looks, money, and I will say also personality. None of that is easy for pnm's, who are all smart and accomplished so they have to be the total package to rush successfully, and it's far harder for the sororities as well because the obvious first round cuts for grades don't exist and there aren't any so-so resumes either. Both schools are huge and tough rushes in their own ways.

So you can’t really compare acceptance rates. UA prides itself on placing as many pnms as possible. UA also really loves to point out that we have the largest chapters in the country. Basically, unless a pnm drops out of recruitment or just completely sucks, she will get placed. Definitely not a bad thing either, if you have girls wanting to be involved, why would you NOT take them. Kind of dumb to only accept 30% or whatever-at the end of the day Greek life is a business. $$$

Ole Miss is brutal too. Everybody who rushes wants just three or four houses out of ten. Bottom houses get openly mocked and disrespected, online and in person. More than one sorority has been bullied off campus over the years, and for a long time no new sororities wanted to come to Oxford because of how toxic it can be.

You are confused; the comment is not about sorority placement rates, it's about school admissions acceptance rates. Let's try again. UT Austin is a highly selective university with a 30% acceptance rate - to get into the school. Therefore, there are no grade risks going through rush and every pnm has an impressive resume or they would not be there. At these types of schools, sorority membership selection criteria is very different because there is no need for cuts by grades or resumes. Same for UVA, Vanderbilt, Duke, NC Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech, UGA, as far as the South's top academic schools. UA's acceptance rate (for the university) is 80%, lots of grade risks in that mix for sororities, so rush involves huge cuts by grades. Same way at Alabama and other schools with a super high acceptance rate. They are very different types of sorority rush. Also, sororities are absolutely not business entities by any financial, legal or otherwise definition. Sororities were founded and exist to promote the welfare of college women. There are no owners of sororities: no sole proprietors, no partnerships, no share holders, no investors of any kind. There are no net gains and nobody's getting a return on investment. There are just members. Membership organizations require money to operate and expand but that's not what it means to be in business or be a business.

AXO is very brave to come onto Ole Miss this year because of everything you just pointed out. I hope they will not be bullied in the same way and will be a success. Ole Miss needs new sororities to turn around their nasty reputation or their Greek life is going to take a huge hit. They had better welcome AXO and understand that they all need that chapter to succeed.

^^^ this is especially true with the member of pnm’s this year. so sad new houses are scared off because they don’t want to stay at the bottom in rankings. I do think theta could compete because of the texas/Oklahoma girls who know that name!

You can’t even wear your letters to frat houses! There are frats that will turn girls away if they don’t think they are cute enough. That is a fact. There are lots of pretty girls in bottom houses and less than pretty girls in top houses. Every house has a mix! Wear your letters with pride and YOU will elevate your house😊!
