Top house recruitment tea

by: recruitment 22

I will be a sophomore, and here's my opinion on the top houses. (I am not in any of them)
Chi O: During rush, I felt like they wanted me and had an issue with bid promising. Don't let Chi O make you feel special; they will still cut you.
Kappa: Took one girl I know who was a grade risk and got cut from nearly every other house. Took another known home wrecker from my town. Rush was mid, and I cut them after sisterhood. Tried to rush one of my really sweet and pretty friends and she preffed another house over them.
Zeta: ZTAs are known for being really pretty, which is true. They give off the main character vibe when the movie is almost over, and they all of a sudden become very sweet. Rush with them felt so chill, and my friends agree with me that zta rush is the most comforting, but you still may get cut even if you feel that way. (friends had issues with that)
Pi Phi: amazing pref, they're recruitment is very beautiful, but I don't think it's an accurate description of their house. They are not out much. but they went crazy when they won derby days, and it was really cute. Their aesthetic is really cute, but they won't shut up about angels. Take that as you will. Known for being smart, but I had some really dumb friends rush pi phi.

It is every sorority's job to make every pnm feel wanted. That is just rushing well. Some do it better than others and makes them more highly desired. Those sororities can be much more choosy in their membership selection, and that's why they can, and must, make the deeper cuts. If you will be a sophomore you haven't even been through rush on the other side yet. There's a lot you don't even know yet.

Yes! This is what makes recruitment so difficult. You should walk away from every house believing they adored you. That is their job! To make you feel special. If you don’t feel that way then you should rank them low because most likely you are already cut from that house.

You actually had someone promise you a bid from chi o? I agree that all houses are suppose to make every pnm feel special.
You may have been rushed hard and the person who rushed really wanted you to be a chi o but that does secure a bid.

Yes, bid promising happens. Even so far as getting told “once you are here for a year, then you have the potential to be on our leadership council.” I thought it was a done deal. Imagine my confusion and heartache when I got cut.

This was ZTA.

I am sorry ZTA did that to you and Chi O did that to the original poster. Girls need to learn to be more careful with their words especially when there are things that go on behind the scenes that they have no control over. Last year I had a girl cut for pref day that I would have loved to have been my little. No explanation. I assumed she cut us but she later said she 100 percent did not and was devastated. I never remotely made a bid seem like a done deal though and I am in a “mid” house. I think it may have been an alum cut because her grades were just “ok”.

Really? I would have taken that like it was meant..."once ONE IS here for a year, then ONE WILL have the potential to be on our leadership council." You can't seriously think that it was directed at you personally.

I agree the pnm could have taken those words too literally but I am assuming other things were said as well to make her think it was a done deal?? I will say it’s actually a tougher than you think on the other side. You want to be positive and be able to let the pnm envision herself in your house without crossing the line. Pnm’s need to be aware that anything could happen and to not be 100 percent set on one house until the bid card is opened! The night before bid day is crazy for Panhellenic and they really do want to ensure every girl gets a bid so numbers can get moved around to make that happen.

I agree with you on what you say, but the comment is reaching so hard it is obviously just meant to shade a sorority.

I didn’t take it too literally. I was made to believe it was a done deal…just needed to go along with it until Saturday. One year in ZTA and I could be on the leadership council. She was talking to me about MY personality traits and how I would be a perfect fit. It wasn’t a generic “if a person gets a bid, then after a year they could be on council.” She was talking to me about me. Talking about which rooms in the house are the best to live in.

Don’t try to tell me I took her too literally. She rushed me all summer long, then during actual rush told me these things.
It was actually confusing, mean and extremely hurtful when I got cut and very real even if you want to try and cover up the fact that your zista did that. Even late on bid day I texted her (since we texted all summer long), and asked “what the heck?” To this day, the girl won’t even look me in the eye.
You’re just embarrassed someone called ZTA out on this site. Don’t make me name drop who did it.

This exact same thing happened to me at Pi Phi. A girl from my hometown started recruiting me hard. The invite up to see the house, meet other Pi Phis Ect… When I was cut the night before pref I was shocked and sad. When I would run into her she would act like she didnt know me. Super hurtful. I know now though that she may have tried her best and it just didn’t happen for me. Last year I personally reached out to girls that I feel like strongly wanted my house and texted them that I hope they were happy ect… If she would have done that it would have helped so much! By the way I ended up in a top house without connections.

i am curious if the zta was a sophomore? i can’t see why she would try and recruit you if she didn’t think she had a great shot at getting you a bid? especially if she were a sophomore looking for a little. not every girl ( any house) can get everyone they want to bid day. too bad she didn’t just apologize that you got cut and be truthful about the situation which probably was she did not know why. very few girls will actually know the reason someone was cut. recruitment chair and maybe a couple of girls on her team. this is done to protect the chapter ( not a zta but assuming it’s the same there) because you can bring your friends to help you recruit a girl but it doesn’t mean they will help vote her in. this obviously could cause friction in the house. recruitment team and alums could have other reasons as well such a grades, rep risk, location ( such as trying to give bids from all over versus simply filling up a pledge class full of central Arkansas girls) diversity ect…. on top of all that i agree top houses will not take too many pnm’s to pref that may be attending another top house pref night. they do this to try and remain exclusive by claiming to get all the girls they wanted and be able to state that they were never cut during recruitment week ect..

i am sorry you felt bid promised but i also believe most likely whoever did that tried her best to get you a bid. i think until girls are on the other side they are unaware that things happen that they can’t control and not everyone gets a bid even if they made it all the way to pref. she should have reached out once bid day was over for sure.

^^^ I agree the zta probably tried her best get you a bid. I am guessing she is embarrassed she didn’t have enough pull to make that happen. I had a similar experience with chi o. Shocked was how I felt on pref day when they cut me. I won’t say I was bid promised but I had so many girls shouting my name both going in and leaving the parties. The girl who recruited me was over the top sweet and introduced me to many other girls who seemed to know so much about me. I never asked ( although I thought about asking) but after being on the other side I just think it’s about numbers and not everyone was going to pref with chi o and I guess they made everyone feel special. I will say I am super happy with my house!

I got harddddd bid promised chi o. Got sat down over the summer for 3 hours being told how awesome chi o is and that I was going to be on their social media team. I got cut the first day .. didn’t even get to talk to them since open party was just videos is 2020.

I bet if you had girls rushing you over the summer then was cut the first night it was done by an alum. Alums can cut girls and basically tell the recruitment team to just deal with it. Sad but true!

why would someone take the time to rush you if they knew it would not get you a bid?i agree they probably did their best. pnm’s should take note if they also believe they have a bid secured somewhere.i know for a fact zeta cut an in house sister because she is in currently in my sorority which is not a top house.

Each sorority is given, by panhellenic, the absolute maximum number they can invite back for every round and not a single person over and there's not a thing they can do about it. This is what RFM is. Cuts aren't personal and when you are cut it doesn't mean that you weren't loved and wanted, or that anyone thought you wouldn't make a great member, or that some active or alum had it out for you. Stronger recruiting sororities are allowed fewer invitation numbers every round - if a house can only ask back 300, you had better believe there were 100 more they loved and wanted, and some actives got their hearts broken and cried buckets when their very favorite girls didn't come back. It's just a numbers game; don't read more into it than that.

So it seems to me that most of the top houses try and make every girl feel special then when they get cut they are upset. Then there is kappa who didn’t waste their time on pnm’s not getting a bid and pnm’s are still upset 😂

by: ummmJul 19, 2022 10:13:04 PM

first of all, we should all be kind to each other always, even if we don’t see a certain PNM in our sorority. second, it’s bad for recruitment. what if a girl that kappa wants really bad hears about them being rude to other girls. not cool. also, the algorithm favors chapters that most PNMs vote to keep, which one happen is they’re rude

If you are talking about numbers, the algorithm basically works this way: Based on several years of statistics, the stronger recruiting chapters have to invite less PNMs back because these chapters are ranked as ones by the majority of PNMs-everyone wants to return to these chapters. These chapters rarely miss pledging to quota. There is less chance that they would not have full parties. The chapters that do not fall into this category are allowed to invite more girls, because historically they might not have always have had full parties or might not have made quota. No sorority will have the identical number of PNMs they can invite back, because none of their statistics are identical. The ultimate goal with RFM is to get as many chapters to quota, and as many PNMs to bid day as possible, and it works pretty well for those PNMs who give each chapter a chance and realize they can be happy in any sisterhood.
