top houses don’t have to compete😐

by:

it’s funny reading these pi phi/kappa post but the truth is that it is rare to lose pnm’s at pref because these houses don’t have to compete. top houses will cut you quick(or put you low on their bid list) if they even think you may go somewhere else. especially the past few years with record breaking amount of girls going through recruitment that are awesome! i am in one of these two houses and i know many girls we cut because we thought that there was a chance they were going somewhere else. that’s why you see girls crying on pref day. you can easily have two or three top houses the round before pref then none on pref night. yes there is a small amount of pnms with two top houses pref night but honestly they were simply lucky to not have been cut by one or worse both! huge egos in the top houses!

This is actually so true! So pnm’s keep an open mind and closed mouth during recruitment. I wouldn’t even use the phrase “i am leaning towards” if someone ask. Unless you can 100 percent trust that person (like your mom) just say things like your waiting until after pref to make a decision. That’s good advice anyway because you never know what house you may be drawn towards at the end of the week and it very well may not be a top house!

And the other houses will cut you if they think your sold on a top house!

There is nothing worse than a pnm thinking they are locked in at a top house and then go through recruitment with an attitude!

Omg this! I am in a what most consider a lower mid house and I hate dismissive pnm’s.
I was cut from all top houses the first night but roommate had two for sisterhood round and neither house took her to pref. Maybe like the original poster they didn’t want to risk taking her? She was beyond devastated ( especially for one house where she had a close connection) BUT she pledged a mid house and had a great year so just remember it isn’t all about being in a top house.

I cut two top houses after the first round. one was krappa because they were rude and awkward. I already knew those were not my people, so why keep them around and take up space? the other was chio. they were not rude, but I knew they were not my people. it was a good strategy to focus on the others and keep a full party schedule.

no you didn't "cut two top houses"

Yes, it’s possible to cut two top houses. If you aren’t interested in Kappa or Chi O, then you don’t list them as ones you’d like to be invited back.
Despite what y’all think…not everyone is drooling to be one of those.

You don't even sound like you actually went through recruitment because "it was a good strategy to focus on the others and keep a full party schedule" is absolute BS. It's not up to the pnm to keep a full party schedule. The sororities dictate the cuts and the algorithm does the rest.

I 100% cut chio and kappa after the first round. It is people like you that give these 2 houses a bad name. Get over yourself.

No girl, they cut you.

Okay-let’s rephrase: you ranked them last but you didn’t cut them. PNMs don’t make cuts, sororities do.

If a PNM has more than 8 houses that want her back after first round, then the PNM cuts houses.

House(s) wanted her back, but the PNM goes to the top 8 on her list, cutting the others.

These responses of “no you didn’t cut a top house” makes me ill. I wish some of these top houses knew how low they were ranked by a lot of pnm’s.

The truth is that if a pnm ranked one of these houses low and didn't get invited back, it was probably mutual. The only time a sorority would know if someone 'cut' them would be if that pnm had been on their invitation list in the first place. In that case the sorority would go to their flex list and pull up another pnm as a replacement, and only a few people on the recruitment team at that house would even know if this happens. If the sorority does not invite the pnm back then the pnm's rankings become irrelevant because the algorithm just drops that pnm from consideration automatically. A pnm will never ever know the truth about houses they 'cut'.

yeah I agree "keep a full party schedule" does make it sound like you didn't actually go through recruitment. it literally doesn't work that way

Why or how would a house think a pnm was only interested in another house? I mean, as long as I don’t say “I hate it here” or “I want to be an XYZ” would they have any clue?

I’m asking because I want to avoid putting out there whatever makes houses assume PNMs are more interested in another. I want to stay open and not be cut for something like this if even Indktn know what house I want by that time.

surprisingly there are girls who announce day one which house they want. most of these girls have strong connections and feel certain that suzie q from back home is going to make sure they get a bid. it does not always work out like that!

Pnm’s don’t have to announce they prefer another house to get cut. If the houses do their research ( which they will both work week and recruitment week) it’s not difficult to find out which houses pnm’s are going back too. Then it’s a matter of finding out how close the connection is, possibly how they ranked the houses each night ( because some gamma chi’s talk) and an overall vibe they get from the pnm. There are stereotypes for a reason. A super wealthy girl may lean towards kappa, a girl with an over the top amazing resume may lean towards chi o or pi phi, a pretty cheerleader type may lean towards zeta. Alums can reach out to an alum from the girls hometown and in an hour find out info as to where the girl will probably pledge as well. Some may be worth the risk but many simply are cut because why risk taking a girl to pref with another top house when there are so many amazing pnm’s going through recruitment??

I believe I was cut from a top house before pref because some alum that knew my mom called her and she unfortunately told them the house I was most excited about. I most likely would have pledged the house I loved all week anyway but it would have been nice to take the top house to pref just to be sure.
