Serious question about NPHC
by: CuriousStarting this by saying this is a genuinely curious question and I’m in no way trying to provoke or come off insensitive. I always see comments here about how all of the Panhellenic sororities are white with very few of color. I agree wholeheartedly with this observation and wish more poc would rush so change can begin. But my question is about NPHC, these sororities were formed due to poc not being allowed to join Panhellenic sororities and are historically all black sororities. Is this the reason more poc wont rush? Do they feel more comfortable and accepted in NPHC?

And in addition to fear of discrimination, there can be fear of peer disapproval for joining a traditionally white GLO.
About 10 years ago, the first black woman to be elected SGA president at Ole Miss was also the first black PNM to receive a bid from Phi Mu. She told an interviewer that in addition to experiencing racism from white students, she was called a sellout by some black students—including members of the NPHC chapter she had rushed and been rejected from.
