How much do Rec Letters Matter?

Should I bother getting rec letters for Kappa and Chi O if I don’t know anyone in those houses? How much do they matter in general? Will I definitely get cut from a house if I don’t have a rec letter?

Most houses no longer require them. Focus on your video and essay questions. ❤️

Unfortunately, some houses still want or require those letters. They don't really read them though. Most of them are written by old alumni who usually don't even know the pmns they are writing for. It is just one of those formalities.

If you can get them do it. It may be the tiebreaker that gets you to the next round.

Chi O requires one official recommendation and also wants two letters of support. Kappa wants one official recommendation. Honestly, these houses already know about 95% of the pmns they want. If you have connections there, great. If you don't, keep an open mind to other houses that are amazing (and have better sisterhoods!!!!!!)

It's not that some houses don't care, it's that some nationals have eliminated the REQUIREMENT for a rec in order to get a bid. For sororities that still do require them, if you don't have one and they absolutely love love love you they can get one for you real quick, rare but happens, but if not it's an easy cut. For ones that don't require them, having a rec shows interest and that you took the extra step for them, and they appreciate that. So it's brownie points for the ones with recs when it comes down to deciding between equally good pnm's; the one with a rec will edge out the one that doesn't. And guess what? Most pnm's are pretty equal with each other, so...it's your play here...
