How can you get a feel for the sorority

by:

How can a PNM get a true feel for the sorority if it’s all so orchestrated? From what I understand actives are assigned to certain PNMs and that PNM only gets to talk to those actives. A PNM only gets to meet like 6 girls total from a house of hundreds? How can a PNM really tell what the house is like w/o basing it all on these 6 actives?!

This is where your homework comes in. Read up on their philanthropy, look at their social media, ask as many people as you can that go here to see if you can get a feel for what their opinion is of all the houses. That’s what I did and what I was told was very accurate.
Chi o - Little Rock debutants
Kappa - wealthy and can be judgmental
Zeta - looks, friendly
Pi phi - smarties,classy
Tri delts - quirky smart
KD - All American
Adpi - cutie pies
Phi mu - mean girl rep ( personally I disagree)
Axo - sweet ,non judgmental
Aopi - pretty and on the come up
Dg - great girls great sisterhood

Descriptions are accurate and agree to ask around. Two in person chances to get a feel for a house before pref is not enough!

good for you that you have not met the mean girls of phi mu, but they have that rep for a reason.other than that good descriptions

Zeta cut most of the girls in my group first night? Maybe it was just my group but we had only like three or four girls that still had them on their schedule night one so I don’t know if they are “easy” to get. Descriptions above are pretty much how most people think of the houses once on campus though

zeta is not “easy” to get. just may be easier than chi o or kappa but kappa has been slipping for the past couple of years so who knows what this year will look like.they can have their list of girls but that doesn’t mean they will get all them. they haven’t been the past couple of years.

Why do you say tri delt alum are the worst?
What are your reasons?

^^^ they are the worst because more than once i have pulled for girls that didn’t even get past first round because some alum cut them.no discussion these girls were just gone.one in particular is one of the sweetest girls i have ever met!

your best bet is to go into recruitment with an open mind. if you asked this question then you most likely do not know that many girls here that would have already given you an idea of the houses. go where the girls make you feel special during recruitment. all will be nice ( except maybe kappa who was so rude to me last year and i still find them rude) but you will probably feel more special and wanted in one or two houses!

Is that a huge disadvantage that I don’t know anyone and am OOS? Do most people already know each other? This all seems intimidating. Everything I’ve read makes it sound like there’s no reason to even show up because it’s all decided before we even get there. And some of the comments today are just “count yourself lucky if you’re chosen”.

@Future PNM…at a disadvantage??
You’re OOS and don’t already know people…then start with Tri Delta and KD if you’ve got the grades. That is where the real recruitment begins.
The top 4 already know who they are giving bids to. Those girls getting them already know also.
Occasionally you’ll have a random girl who hits it off during rush, but it is very, very rare.
I personally think ZTA is the “easiest” to get into of the top 4 if you’ve got the looks and a fun/party personality.

with such a large group of pnm’s coming through this year i think the pnm’s should still keep an open mind even for the top four. yes they may have a group in mind but it’s probably not what quota will be.

Thank you Sorority Girl, for actually answering a question kindly! This makes sense.

Everyone should be nice to pnm’s asking questions :)

Simply go with whoever you click with during recruitment because there is a great chance she will be your big!

Huge chance that will be your big! I went with the girl I clicked with the most versus the entire house and it totally worked for me!

I don’t think you should base your choice on one girl that may or may not be your big. Look around at the girls going into pref with you because they ( or some ) will be in your pledge class and that’s who you will spend the most time with!

First round cuts come from the top four. If you have connections you get an invite back. Personally I think not having a round one will not change anything for the pnm’s.

It will be really hard this year. No first round in person or zoom, so if you don't have any connections, you'll have to do some research on your own. This chance puts a lot of pmns at a disadvantage.

Totally unfair to the pnm’s to not get a round one!

@Rachel
Talk about unfair?! The entire PCs of 2020 got the most unfair rush ever! None of the “parties” were in person, so…yeah do you really think those girls really ended up where they belonged??
And they were encouraged to go ahead and rush since rushing as a sophomore isn’t ideal.

I agree it will be more difficult for the girls who know no one on campus. Your resume and video will be very important this year!

Promising bids to girls over the summer whether they mean it or not is dirty rushing, and YES is does happen.
I was promised a bid from a particular one all summer long, then was cut after the 3rd round.

^^ that should never happen! pnm’s do NOT believe a bid promise! i was going to say unless it comes from the recruitment chair herself but even then nope! alums can( and do) cut girls and panhellenic can move girls around after pref to ensure everyone gets a bid. try not to get attached to one house during recruitment. plenty of girls open their bid card and do not get their first choice. most end up loving the house they get a bid too:)

I thought PNMs were not allowed to contact actives after spring break? I don’t want to do anything that’s going to hurt my chances, but I do want to reach out if that is allowed.
Am I the only one that feels intimidated and confused?! 😳

the rules have changed and you can reach out now via social media. they are allowed to talk to you about “going greek” but are not suppose to mention their house in particular at this point or bid promise ect…..
